i call 100% BS
The account is a decent age, but rarely used. Looking through the post history I would guess he is a troll alt, but no guesses as to who yet. I'll take your bet though. If by this time next week the $200 PS3 slim is not released I will win, and have a shiny new phone to match (yeah right).
Whats the point of enabling bd-dvd movie playback via a 'software update'? where's the cost saving in that?

It is better to die on one's feet
then live on one's knees
Why do people even think a PS3 without Blu-ray is something to even comprehend? I mean all the games are on Blu-ray disks so no Blu-ray would mean no games, and this also says no DVD... What will it play games off of?? Floppy disk?? LOL

blu-ray playback != blu-ray
It will be interesting, a megaton if true.

The Xbox couldnt play DVD movies unless you purchased the DVD Controller, once the controller receiver was attached it could play Movies. BD-Movie playback will be software locked, once the purchase the unlock software you will be able to play BD-Movies. Sony knows that most of the people that buy the cheaper Slim will eventually buy the software upgrade to watch BD-Movies. But by doing it this way they will be able to better compete with the Xbox Arcade in price. |
But wouldn't that keep the production costs the same as the usual Blu-Ray enabled Ps3? Blu-Ray is still in there so it's costing Sony.
This Whole thread is bullshit anyway.

Not sure what Sony has to pay for blu-ray playback but it wouldn't be out of the question for them to remove it if its still $30. $80 is way too steep there would be a backlash on that if they tried to leverage the fees like that. |
A move microsoft would pull? A terrible business decision that would also be a PR nightmare? Sounds like it's got Sony written all over it.
(Not that I believe it for a second)
its to late for april. sony wont pull the blu-ray drive out of the PS3
IF SONY came out with a slim PS3 with blu-ray and 80 for 199
people would eat this up like hot cakes. they would out sell the wii and 360 put together
VITA 32 GIG CARD.250 GIG SLIM & 160 GIG PHAT PS3
| o187em said: The PS3 Slim $199.99 model will be a stripped down version of the console. It is lacking Blu-ray and DVD movie playback. For this price you will get the console, 40 or 60GB HD, Controller and AV Cables. BD/DVD-Movie playback is optional via a $79.99-$99.99 "undecided" software update you can purchase from the PS Store. For $349.99 you can get the fully BD/DVD capable version with 120GB HD, Controller and HDMI Cable. Both will offer built-in Wifi. They will be announced next week and start selling Labor Day Weekend or end of August. |
Stopped reading right there... I thought people understood that the games are on Blu-Rays...
Also going Online Distribution only just won't work for the PS3... Kaz even said it himself.
