Forums - Sales - AC2 Sales will be disappointing?

I just read a thread on Neogaf and realised it's releasing within 7 days of Modern Warfare 2.

Sure they are different games, but they target the same age group and most people only buy 1 game at a time. As far as hype and marketing goes, I fully expect MW2 to outshine AC2.

Uncharted 2 is also coming out a month ahead of AC2 and both have slightly similar platforming elements so its sales on Ps3 will be hurt a little by that.

On top of that, the first AC game was not really well received by fans who played the game. Many ppl disliked it and found it repetitive and boring. Their probably won't be as many repeat buyers for AC2.

Just a quick thought. Anyone else agree/disagree?

Don't think so.....it will do fine.

Nope it will sell well. Just like L4D2 will sell well. Those 3 comes out close together, but they are the last 3 "big" titles for the holiday

trust me if anything uncharted 2 sales will be hurt by assasin's creed 2, not the other way round

It's going to be the big winner of the holiday season alongside MW2 imo. Every year the trend of a few games 'cleaning up' with huge sales over the rest seems to be further exhaggerated and this year I think this will only continue.

Ubisoft have said their E3 hype-o-meter now tells them they expect to outsell the original. To me it never felt like the original should have sold like it did - I didn't ever notice it garning more hype on forums and such. However is touched the mainstream gamer who buy Call of Duty, Madden, GTA in their droves and as such I've no doubt the sequel will fare just as strong.

It's not the established brands we should be worried about this Christmas...

@jammy...

the first sold well, but many ppl who bought it didnt like it. This is one big game where you will get a lot of very very mixed opinions on. Kind of like Prototype, but more extreme and on the negative side.

Do you really think they'll be buying the sequel?

Most people I know did like it, and even those who didn't I'm sure most of them are fickle enough to buy the sequel once the marketing kicks in and everyone is talking about it. I'd expect Assassin's Creed 2 to be received better by critics too, but I guess thats up to Ubisoft to fix.

Then there is the whole much larger userbase then 2007, as with any big selling game, especially one as repetitive as Assassin's Creed, it's later sales were hurt by the pre-owned market. In the UK it's one of the most common pre-owned games so obviously alot more people played it then sales figures let on.

Modern Warfare 2 will flop. (compared to the expectations)

If you mean Activision's expectations of "best selling game ever", then you're almost certainly right.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

No the fans will come through this holiday. It will do fine on launch and lifetime.
