Buy a Dsi because it'll get some excluesive features as well as a inernet browser and the Dsi shop which in the future will get way better games. So the dsi is better in the long run.

DSiWare will never rival the library that is opened up by the DSL and the ability to play GBA games.

Sure though if you thnk about it do you really want to spend money on the GBA and DS their is
already tons of games for the DS also if you download a whole bunch of games you will only have to
carry a few retail games with you

the difference between the dsi and ds is that the dsi has an internet browser, two cameras, and a shop channel, and its lighter than a ds lite. and the games u shud get is super mario 64 ds, pokemon since u like rpgs, mario and luigi the rpg

Yes.

It also has better speakers, bigger screens, the ability to play music off an SD card, the ability to swap games without turning it off, a better user interface, and better buttons.

GBA games are the only reason to every buy a DSlite now.  The DSi is better in pretty much every way.

My DSL can play music off an SD card ^^

DSL also has better battery life.

Sorry, I meant SDHC in the above post.

Also, the battery life of the DSi and DSL are within 30 minutes of one another.  The thing is that the DSi has a brighter screen than the DSL by default.  Turn it down so they match more closely and the battery life of the two is very similar.

I wouldn't say that I have no interest in GBA games, I just didn't buy one because I bought a Game Boy Color very late in the generation and didn't really feel like spending more money at the time. I'll probably get the DSL because Golden Sun looks great.

So I am probably going to start off with Zelda, Suikoden Tierkreis, and Chrono Trigger, but feel free to keep the suggestions coming. I don't think I've finished looking at all the games on okr's list yet. (thanks man!)

themanwithnoname's law: As an America's sales or NPD thread grows longer, the probabilty of the comment "America = World" [sarcasticly] being made approaches 1.

If you already own any GBA games, get a DS Lite.

If you don't own any GBA games, get a DSi.

I'll recommend Super Robot Taisen Original Generations Endless Frontier Saga.  (Try saying that 3 times fast...)

Good points include:

  • Utterly hilarious - A comedy from start to finish.
  • Great battle system - It's turn-based yet not turn-based in the sense that you control the timing of all the attacks similar to Valkyrie Profile.  Playing well can net you 200+ hit combos versus maybe 15 hits which really affects the difficulty.
  • Good difficulty - It can get very challenging at points.  Some bosses easily have over 300k HP and swing pretty hard.
  • Nice story - It's easier to follow if you played the first OG games on the GBA but you really don't have to have played them to enjoy it.
  • Great soundtrack full of new songs and remixed originals:

The dialogs are worth at least one play through.

Just another thought in favor of the standalone GBA if you have a GC or Wii. If you ever decide to get any games for it and the GC with the ability to link up, you couldn't use the connecter with the DS. I know, probably a minor point for most. Just thought of it so I figured I'd bring it up.
