You know what gets me? When people say 'It's always in the last place you look'. Well of course it is because when you find what you're looking for you don't carry on.

in my case, its usually in the FIRST place i looked. but i have to go back and search everywhere again.

Sometimes, this isn't true, for me, at least.

If, say I'm looking for my phone, I may see it on the side, somewhere, but I might have to "see" it several times before I recognise it... meaning that I continue looking after I have found it.
