Forums - Gaming - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick responsible for splitting Starcraft2?

Summary of this thread...

Kungkras: OMG I love Blizzard so hard they only believe in gaming and care nothing for money despite creating one of the most profitable MMO's in history. How can Blizzard do us harm they gave us Warcraft and Diablo. They would never fuck us in the ass must be Activision their publisher who they could freely leave at anytime, but of course how could their philosophies intertwine they are only publisher and developer...

Sony Fans: Enough!! We hate this guy already!

Heruamon: Let's stray off topic and speak about this undeserved hate

GrahamHsu: I've been saying Blizzard is evil...my D2 thread after the insane ban on legit Diablo 2 players.

And it seems my stance still stands and I will never agree with Malstrom's articles no matter the subject...If someone were to ask me who's idea was this all I'm going to definitely say Blizzard they aren't perfect by far the new WC 1.24 patch obviously proves they aren't perfectionists and they are still big fat liars. Where's that huge change? Icefrog has done more for WC3 than Blizzard =P

I do think that heruamon has a legitimate point. Not that there aren't a number of justifications to dislike the man. Though it does seem that his infamous threat of withdrawing support seems to be what is resonating for many members. They may put forward supporting reasons, but the truth is that is what really pissed them off.

We are looking at the proverbial making a mountain out of a mole hill. When you dislike something someone did there is a propensity to find more reasons to hate them. You actively seek them out, and your not likely to find good things they have done, because that isn't serving your purposes.

The reality is four months ago the negative commentary on Activision was scant at best. Then we have members read about the PS3 price ultimatum, and suddenly the discontent goes right through the roof. To imply it is not the primary motive is naive at best, and intentional ignorance at worst. You can dress up a chimp, and smear makeup all over it, but it is in the end it is still a chimp. Basically every other day its members playing dress up with their original gripe.

In this case it is entirely subjective, and nothing more then corporate flaming of the sour grapes variety. You don't want to like this person, because of the fact that he made a threat against Sony. Well to be honest he was right to make those comments the high price of the console was impacting the bottom line for his company. Boo if you want you know he was right. Just as right as every other game developer that put the screws to Sony this generation. How quickly we have managed to forget comments from the likes of Square and Konami.

Anyway as far as I am concerned its just hating with an ulterior motive. You can't keep ragging on the company for the same thing so you go out looking for new ways to rag on them. Well the truth be told on the whole his company is doing a fairly good job of delivering games to the public that the public seems to want. In other words he is obviously doing more good then bad. As far as this generation goes a lot more entities have done far worse.

Thanks for eloquently supporting my point...I'm not, by any stretch of the imagination,  saying that Activision-Blizzard is perfect...but c'mon...the amount of hate being directed at them is ridiculous.

The company is working on many major IPs for PC user base in addition to console users, which tops every other company out there.  Starcraft, Diablo, COD, GH…etc etc etc…

They pushed out Wolverine, which is a nice game for a movie IP title (Bee movie…not so much), but yes…they have some shovelware (Fiddy Cent’s shovel…), but c’mon who doesn’t…they are cost effective to produce, and this is a business after all.

Ah, you included Starcraft and Diablo. I can't bring myself to think that Blizzard, some of the most talented devs in the industry, are owned by such a horrible company. Fortunately, Blizz won't let Kotick boss them around, and they certainly won't let him milk their franchises into the ground.

WHY did Vivendi have to merge with Activision?

So you think Infinity Ward and Raven are crap?

I think Infinity Ward are amazing. Raven aren't crap, but nor are they particularly good.

It's not so much I hate Activision's games, just their habits. Not to mention one of my old favourite series, Tony Hawk, has now been completely destroyed, none of the Guitar Heroes are good anymore, and Spider-Man just sucks now.

I want to believe otherwise, but I know it's just a matter of time before Call of Duty follows suit

@ Kantor

I guess everyhting is relative...most of the games you spoke of, I have no interest in, so maybe that's why I don't see the evils of Activision. The last 3 games that I played by Activision were great, so I'm not seeing the problems with them...other than Kotick pissing people off...you'd think ps3 fans would cheer him for putting sony's management on the hot stove, but...

When EA said PS3 would outsell 360 in 2008, and that they would shift lead platform to ps3...you didn't see boycott calls from me, as I still bought from them...so that's where I'm coming from.

This boycott has nothing to do with Bobby Kotick's evident Sony hate. It's to to with his attitude on the whole, which is essentially "Screw innovative, quality stuff. We only want crap that we can exploit (his own word. Exploit) every year to become million dollar franchises. Oh and we should charge more for these games".

EA used to be this bad, but they improved. Hopefully, Activision will do the same when they realise nobody likes them anymore.
