I think they will stick with 2 SKUs

Elite will be cut to the Pro's price.

That is all.

299$ Elite in response to 299$ ps3 price cut. If it`s 349$ ps3,that`s even better for MS.

149$ Arcade will be epic. They already doubled the memory inside the Arcade to 512mb from 256mb.

MS is very smart...they will have less confusion, the lowest price possible, and a competitiv high end product that psihologically mach the lowest in price competitor...the possible 299$ ps3.

The casual player will see this...and history repeats itself. Half the price of the ps3 again.

I don't see how this will "counter" the PS3 slim, I don't think that pepole who are waiting for a 300 PS3 will suddenly buy a 360 if it's cheaper, since, well, it is already cheaper, and I don't see why pepole will buy it at a 150$ difference if they don't already buy it at a 200$ difference.

It will boost MS's sells, but not at the expanse of Sony.

Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.

I really want them to hurry up so I can pick up an Elite.

Well, if they low the price for 149$ for arcade probably ms would be looking to the pretty good PS2 sales, they're offering a much more powerful systems with many more good releases nowadays for just 50$ more. I wonder how much a x360 costs to MS in order to know if it's really worth cutting price...

But anyway, i think they don't make the shit strategy of lose money for system sold anymore, to price cut probably they will cut costs first and just re pass the minor manufacutiring cost to consumers without losing profit per unit.

I think this is their strategy:

Xbox 360 Elite: $299 U.S, £169.99, €239.99.

Xbox 360 Arcade: $150, £109?, €149.00.

The Xbox 360 HDD upgrade will be somewhere between the Arcade and the Elite, IMO it will be 50% of the difference and that will create a cut down 'shadow' SKU to compete with the PS3 as well.

Tease.

$99.99 XBOX 360 arcade
$299.99 Xbox 360 elite

expect it no more than a month after a PS3 price cut (im not predicting anything, im just saying its a possibility)

This day and age and with effort in trying to reclaim the livingroom, i dont see how a console can survive without a HDD. So my prediction is the Arcade will get an HDD no doubt. And the Elite will work as a PS3 competitor with whatever that brings.

Probably M$ is just cutting out the Pro and dropping the elite price to $299 that way they dont lose too much money before the PS3 slim comes out. If the Slim starts destroying them in sales per week then i expect a price drop but not until after September at the earliest. This is M$s attempt at raising sales a bit without dropping prices too much

Long Live SHIO!

I rather them make Natal development time faster and advertise the hell out of it.
They will probably surprise us with something.

Case 2 for me.

Why not case 1 ?

Because if Arcade gets a HDD then ... it is not anymore an Arcade !!!!
Also, since Arcade is considered at the low end model (well it is in a way), if you are going to stop it then you also leave awat the name of the sku to keep the "PRO" name that is largely more prestigious

Since, it seems, Arcade name is going to stay then ... Arcade will not get HDD

Also, 2 others point to keep arcade/elite over pro :

- Elite gets price cut : same offer but better pricing, it may attract some consumer without making MS lose too much money

- keep the offer diversity : elite big HDD for elite gamer, arcade, no HDD, for casual
at the end, u can supress Elite OR Pro BUT you have to keep ARCADE

- Arcade is not expensive to purchase but it is also less expensive to make because ... NO HDD
there is not way MS will stop making the less expensive model !!

Nice point...

Without evidence though.

I didn't realize that selling a 4 year old techonology and a 120 giga 2,5" HD (that costs 40 euros) for 300 euros makes the company loose money.

I mean, seriously, they sell a 40 buck thing for almost 150 $! And they still loose  money??? RLY???

Evidence please before you artistically spit the poison...

230 euros Elite FTW!

We already know it's 256MB built in on the arcade, and a 120GB on the elite from box picture from the story Kotaku broke.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.
