The PS2 is still being supported, so last generation is lasting quite a while. I'm not sure if the current generation needs to last as long as the last generation but eight years seems good.

With the levels that graphics have reached, I'd be happy if they lasted 6-7 years. I was plenty happy with the GC and only upgraded because the system got abandoned. I'm happy with my PS3 and Wii, and I won't upgrade until they stop making games for those systems too.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

4 years with BC on all previous games. I'm a very tech savy person and I want the newest things now. It already feels like this gen is 2 years over it's prime.

As for handhelds, I like those to last forever, 10 years minimum. Also with BC on all previous games. Carrying more than 1 handheld around can get annoying. Actually, all I want is PSP forever with BC and CS compatility.
