Forums - Sales - What if LIVE was totally free?

I'd probably stop using Live if it was free. It's the cost that keeps the rift-raff away.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.

'Rift-raff'?!?!

Have you heard those racist homophobic children playing any shooter you care to mention?!

Doesn't matter how much you charge, those rude rich kids will always get online.

if live were free:-

- their would be allot more users of live than there currently are
- their would be allot of happy new customers
- All the old customers would be pissed unless they get the money back for the remaining time their subscription had
- their would be initial outrage as people start thinking that their live service they've been use to as a paying customer will be stripped back of features, but they then will accept that free is awesome and cool

if live were free, Microsoft reaction:-

- Microsoft will cry every night like an emo teen after losing their cash cow, and in an emotional rage with out any thought will fire all people responsible for making it free as well as those that agreed with the idea.

- So much pain and crying will this new emo section be in, that out of pure revenge to the gamers, jocks and cheerleaders of the world, they will re-introduce Live gold subscription again, but this time it will 10 times the cost, and it will be the only service available, so they can regain the lost money.

- Microsoft will then be happy again because they know there are allot of sheep on their console, and they know these sheep will flock to what ever is offered to them. The not the smartest of consumers, nor the ones with much money to burn, but their sheep mentality tells them to consume and consume they must....it's how certain companies and products do so well despite logic saying otherwise, and Microsoft know all to well how to capitalise on these sheep.

These are the outcomes that I for see happening if live were to all of a sudden become free.

@ nightdragon, firstly, you are comparing the most expensive PS3 with the cheapest Xbox, and then you would have to add some extra HDD space to get all that DLC. You also have to wait an extra week for DLC and you can't send messages over live from your computer

Because PS3 fans do it all the time, "turnabout is fair play". You can get a 20GB HD off ebay for less that $20.00 Another $60 and a simple hacking proceedure will get you a 120GB hard drive. As far as I know, DLC downloads are only inhibited by your internet connection, and could theoretically be almost instant. And lastly, yes, yes you can send messages as well as do any of the other functions you would normally do on XBL by logging into the Xbox Live homepage from you computor...so please, tell me again what your beef is?

Well, during their GC presentation Sony stated 280 million dollars revenue from PSN.

Considering MS is pulling at least half a billion per year...

I think it wouldn't make a great difference. If online is very important to you, you're also willing to pay for it - and if it's not very important to you, the question wether it has free online or not is probably not the decisive factor when buying a console.

good point. If they made the online free I wouldn't run out and go buy a 360.

I think its something they should offer to anyone that ever had the red ring of death as compensation...

I agree, One year of XBL would be sufficiant enough. On a side note, I wouldn't mind seeing more adds if it meant free gold.

live being free would be like saying we ar gner drop quality, not maintain anything, become like the ps3 aka why its at the bottom of the charts but the dsi is at top so any crazy things could happen
