I'm not buying it. That MAG date just sucks.

I hope MAG succeeds but the game is quite unpopular even among Sony fans. Most people are very sceptical.

The hype is just a fraction of games such as Heavenly Sword, Resistance or Infamous.

Different genres, but think Motorstorm 2 (or perhaps Warhawk, buy we lack complete sales for that game) when you try to imagine sales potential and anticipation for MAG. Motorstorm 2 didn't even reach 500,000 in it's first 10 weeks out. Same with SOCOM which is perhaps the best comparison to MAG's potential, released in Oct 2008 and also selling 500,000 before end of year.

This is best case scenario, 500k before end of year. Personally I believe in a huge flop and 250,000 copies. Actually I doubt a 2009 release date at all.

It's difficult to compare with Motostorm, as you say they are different genres and FPS are much more popular with the general market than off road racers. I agree with SOCOM being the best comparisson, however, SOCOM scored quite poorly in reviews which obviously wouldn't have helped its sales. Until we see more of the game it is going to be very difficult to judge MAG as we have no idea of how well it will play. If the previews/reviews end up positive I think it could creep up to 1mil but if not then I agree with your predicitions.

All that said, I wouldn't expect MAG to fair any better in a 2010 release than a holiday 09 one as I still feel a holiday release will balance the negative MW2 factor.

it wont outsell MW2 but if SONY advertises this game to hell and back it can get a good sells

becuz L4D 2 already has an installed fan base (including myself so day 1 for me)

I hope people don't expect MAG to sell much more than a million. It will perform a lot like the SOCOM games probably. There is a ridiculously hardcore fanbase for zipper games that will guarantee about 700,000 in sales imo. After that, please don't expect too much from this game people. Even though I am sure it will be great.

In conclusion, you wont stop Zipper fans from buying zipper games. The game will be fine.

Ill be picking up GT5 day one but I wont be getting MAG or Moder Warfare 2. But if MAG turns out to be great then I'll consider it.

Oh and good luck to MAG and Sony ;)
