Forums - Nintendo - so...whatever happened to the dsi virtual console?

it's getting harder and harder for me to justify purchasing my dsi but i always told myself that "when they release the dsi virtual console, it'll be worth it."

where the hell is it? why haven't they implemented it? i'm so ready to repurchase many gameboy/color/advance games...

why can't we already play wii virtual console games? the freakin psp does it.

i understand that it may be difficult to play some n64 titles, but everything else should be expected...

I sure wouldn't expect Wii Virtual Console-titles to be playable on the DSi, and I don't think many others would either.

As for the DSi virtual console, I'd say we'll probably see it once Nintendo decide they need to move more hardware.

They never announced DSi VC, so you should have waited if that is what you bought it for. There is a good chance they never release DSiVC. If they really cared about backwards compatibility with the DSi they would have left the GBA Slot in place.

Anyways, there was an article a while back where a guy was trying to publish a collection of games where they were all ported onto the DS. He claimed that Nintendo had a rule that all DS games must not be emulations, but they claimed his games were emulations. I think he was walking a fine line between port and emulation, but he got turned down. I can't find the link to the article, but if Nintendo's stance is no emulators on the DS, then we'll never see DSiVC.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy
In the past we played games. In the future we watch games. - Forest-Spirit

Partly, as you said, N64 games would be hard to make. Would be pretty lame to say "Yeah, you can play your VC games on DS" and then exclude some of them.

For another reason, DS has no internal memory that I know of. Remember the outrage about Wii's lack of memory? Yeah, DS has even less. People supposed to buy extra stuff for DS too, now, for storage?

I have never seen any reason to expect anything like that, and I haven't heard anyone else expect it either, until now. You're the first one I've seen whose actually expected to see Wii Virtual Console function on the DS.

The DSi has 256mb of internal memory and an SD card slot. I doubt memory will be an issue.

Well, above all? I don't think they find it's something consumers find necessary. As I said, you are the only one I've seen request this. Why supply if there is no demand?

I wouldn't mind it.

What are you talking about?

When did Nintendo ever say they were going to implement that and why would they considering they can remake older games and sell them for full price ala S-E and Pokemon?

If they did, it would only be the handheld virtual console, i figure. Makes sense at least.
