There's been rumours since May 2008 of a 45nm Valhalla based slim 360 to be released in 2009
I'm not sure why that wouldn't still be the case, given the 360 is one year older you would think they are further ahead in reducing the component size than the PS3 is.

The other interesting thing will be just how "slim" the PS3 slim is.

Its funny really that they get picked on for being able to control leaks. Just because you don't hear about their plans 6 months in advance doesn't mean that they haven't got their plans already in place. In all seriousness, the 13M console projection from Sony gave them all the advance warning they would need if they took it seriously.

hello, ps3 fan here. i'm all like "go sony go, horray ps3!" and all but let's be honest with ourselves.

sony's best case scenario: price cut/grand turismo rumors are true. Result: 360/ps3 sales flip and the ps3 goes on to sell ~10-20K more consoles a week. a moral victory for the fanboys? yes. will this really change anything? nope.

i'm sure MS has some counter measure up their sleeves i just don't think it really matters either way.

are you saying its not the best strategy in the world to have all of your major releases software and hardware known months or even years in advance?!? this is earth shattering news ... it could change the entire way sony manages its marketing...... or given the history not so much.... well at least sony fans are aware of the games/hardware they will get someday 

Microsoft knew this was coming, they're not going to sit back and let Sony take lead again. The only reason Sony let Microsoft get ahead and deal damage is because they had no choice and no options at the time. Microsoft however do.

Microsoft has done a fantastic job of lulling the media and the enthusiasts. After E3 Microsoft went into almost a silent running. Way below the radar. More to the point nobody has taken much notice of what Microsoft did not have at that show. Specifically most of their first party software. I think it is about conserving their resources and maximizing their impact.

Perhaps Natal is farther in development then many suspect. The peripheral seemed to be entirely functional at their show. That may be Microsoft's answer to a slim PS3. We all know Microsoft loves to be a year in front of its competition. I think everyone reads the comments of development kits having been sent out as meaning next year, but that hardly precludes Microsoft having made some games internally, or having given some developers kits earlier.

That may be what Microsoft is up to. Imagine the holy hell it would bring down in the press if out of nowhere in say September Microsoft announces the peripheral shipping with a game, and two more games announced for the holiday season.

I thought some developers claimed to already be in possesion of the kits, but you are right this does not stop them making games internally. I think it unlikely but Microsoft are definately better at keeping things to themselves.

Microsoft have done very well this gen, very few leaks.
