And by saying "stealing" I was obviously speaking metaphorically...

By saying that, you are including every company in the world. All companies try to make profit.

ΟΚ, maybe if I rephrase; By buying a PS3 or a XBox360 at the moment you pay 300$-500$ and you gain a 400$-600$ (or more) worth of product whereas by purchasing a Wii, you pay 250$ and get a 100$-150$ product. Therefore, from a consumer's point of view, you get more value for your money (obvisously gamers can't think this way - it's the software that matters - ). Me buying a Wii is a testament to that.

Sounds more like blackmail to me.

Indeed. And it makes me wondering: is BC circuits that expensive to be included in the 40GB PS3 or Sony has made a mistake in understanding current consumer trend ( most gamers considering buying a PS3 atm are looking forward to BC as well)?

That's great and all, but can you name me one company that makes money by giving more than what you paid for?

aahhh but routsounmanman how can you put a price on something you love doing?

unless of course you dont love your console?

Wii is 2.5x powerful than the gamecube.

100x2.5= $250

Well that's interesting because no matter what Sony does, people will still find something wrong. I recall hearing about them putting emphasis on BC, yet people complained that they shouldn't worry about it and focus on the PS3 and it's future.

If you want to talk about some of the ultimate profit, go into a local fast food place and order that soft drink. Now, can you guess how much it really costs? I mean, soda can be mass produced so much that it probably costs next to nothing, not to mention it's something similar with the cups and straws. Yet, you're paying over a dollar for it? I'm not even going to go into the movie theater business.

I also own a Wii and I love it; I'm saying this from a general consumer's point of view (casual?)

From my point of view:

Gamecube (at the moment): 99$
Wii : 249$

Wii > Gamecube but not enough to warrant a ~150$ difference...

$50 Wii Sports

All this below isn't worth $100 while allowing a little for Nintendo to make a small profit?

WiFi
2x USB ports
Bluetooth Receiver
SD Card Slot
512MB Flash Ram
Wii Remote
Nunchuck
Sensor Bar

@all I'm not saying Nintendo shouldn't be selling the Wii that high; if they could raise it higher, they should. They are not a non-profitable company; they're into this because they want to make money. It's just that right now IMO the competition is offering more value for money by only considering the hardware.

Wii sports would retail for <30$ and cost like 5$ to Nintendo

Other consoles have controllers too. And the most expensive part of a console is always the CPU & GPU.
