Forums - Nintendo - Marvelous: "Nintendo needs to make more core games"

Nintendo needs to make core games so that we can complain about not being able to compete with them!

I feel bad for Marvelous, the type of games they make inheritantly don't sell heaps and if they go to the HD consoles the development costs will destroy them.

That is what I am definitely worried about. In 10 years, some website will have a Top 10 consisting of the greatest teams that ultimaltely closed their doors, and Marvelous may be one of them.

@Words of Wisdom

I hope I am one of those 3............

People just have to stop relying on Nintendo for everything, and be proactive. There is such thing as a killer-app, from a 3rd party.

There are over 51 million wiis out there, how many are core owners? the guy implied that the core market on the wii is quite smaller than the casual side.
I think the core market is fine for the wii, it's the mature side that is smaller, as I see core and mature as two different market.

for nintendo consoles, nintendo creates it userbase.
thats being obvious from nintendo 64 days most of big games were nintendo.
with the exception of random rare games.
and it's the same for the wii, third party went HD, and nintendo it's pushing more casual games because they are cheaper to make and are selling more, plus they already released many of it core games, except a full wii zelda.
more of the wii userbase it's casual probably.

while this is true, for most of third party i don't see  how it affect marvelous their games are niche.

of course they won't sell.

It's not like that was Nintendo's fault.  The third parties all decded 'Hey, let's screw them over and jump to the new guy, instead!"

it's actually  , nintendo practically screw over third party over the nes and snes course there was limit of for number of games released, all games had to be practicall published by nintendo because they were the only ones that could make the cassette, it was going to continue with the n64.

from censorship, to huge fee for it games, when sony came by, they change were they could release better games without censorship and  make even bigger profits and they even could publish their games since the CD was a by the time decofacto format.

Marvelous should have got Nintendo to publish their titles, they would have sold millions.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Marvelous can always make a game for PSN/Xbox live arcade and make a lot of profit. And I am pretty sure MS or Sony would transfer some money to get a game exclusive something that Nintendo don't even with all the money they have made this gen.

Tag - "No trolling on my watch!"

Oh yeah Monster Hunter it is probably cause I am not a fan of it that I always forget it.

It is funny that Nintendo software has 80% of the top selling games on its system, compared to Sony and Microsoft only having about 20% of the top selling games.

Why does everyone expect that from the Big N and not from the other two?

On the Wii core userbase statement:

According to last Nintendo survey the "core" (male 14-24) userbase is pretty healthy on Wii anywhere outside Japan, in line with DS "core" audience. Japanese Wii demographics is based around kids+parents userbase, while in US and Europe there're a decent amount of young male audience. Though those, maybe, aren't exactly owners of the Wii (e.g. mom bought it for Wii Fit), but they have access to the system, it's in their households, so that's no big deal. The big deal is to convince them to buy games for Wii.

//The problem with "core" lies in old game development\publishing paradigm. Obviously Wii isn't the best choice for multiplatform games. Graphics as the top selling point of numerous games that appeal to young male audience is the weak point of Wii (not to mention a lack of effort from third parties, that leads to less content, less features, weak online etc., but even with good ports... sorry, not gonna work especially well) - people definitely will choose HD-version over Wii-version (could be some other secondary reasons, like constatnly ignoring Wii won't help third parties build up it's fanbase on this platform - heavy marketing needed, that leads to extra money; not to mention overall bad image of Wii among young male audience).

Disruption of this paradigm was one of the main puproses of the whole Wii campaign. Porting on Wii from HD-consoles won't work, so don't even bother. People need some extra selling points, extra features (obvious but not single option - controls) that could have convince them buying Wii-version over HD-verison... or even better - Wii exclusives. There're some good examples of this simple idea working with so called "core titles", but not too much.

For now many publishers stick to the idea of development of games with more broad appeal (mini-games, copying Nintendo efforts, fitness games etc.). They will flood Wii with such games, and this not gonna change anytime soon as long as this paradigm works, not until oversaturated market of casual games will crash and their profits are down.
