A very reliable source has told us that on August 18th Sony plans to announce price cuts for "the PlayStation family of products". The PS3 is almost certain to be one of these, whereas the others remain a mystery. Perhaps PSP 3000? Maybe Sony is responding to criticism on PSP Go's price? Perhaps just other devices like controllers, PSEye, etc.? Time will tell. It just so happens that on the 18th, Sony is holding a 3 hour long press event at GamesCom in Cologne, Germany. They obviously have some big bombs to drop if they wanted 3 hours of our time, so that further lends credibility to this rumor. Just please bear in mind, until Sony says it themselves, this is being reported as a rumor, so take it with a grain of salt. We however trust this source completely, their info has proven to be true in the past.

Be sure to tune your heads on Auguest 18th for this, should be big big news.

What sources would tell you that there are going to be cuts, and then not say which products?

This is why half of these articles are bullshit, the sources don't ever give enough information, probably because they don't exist, and this article is so open-ended that any product in the Playstation world could get a cut, and they could claim that their source is "right", getting 'em more hits later on when their "source" comes out with more open-ended statements.

Sony better officially confirm a price cut and a slim on the 18th or at least soon, these threads are getting tiresome.

im guessing we will see a slim soon but not a price cut till october. OR a slim and 50 bux price cut now then another 50 bux price cut starting black friday

21st century is the century of the PS3 confirmed!

If those stores are clearancing out the 80G SKU, it is probably a new model they are introducing. If it was a price cut on the existing 80G the stores would be keeping their inventory.

Not to sound like a "hater", but can you imagine the meltdown that would occur if they didn't announce either?
