Forums - Sony - Why is the PS3 slim such a big deal to everyone?

It seems as if the PS3 slim is only a few fans short of the second coming of Christ.  In all seriousness, what's the big deal?  The hardware is already exceptional.  It is a beautiful, shiny black with chrome piece of hardware.  It has no real hardware weaknesses that have been exposed (yet) and really isn't as big as people make it out to be.

A slim is a re-engineer (costly) that still has all the same components save some plastic.  I can't imagine the overall system shrink (other than die, of course) really saves much money and it introduces the possibility of trapping more heat?  Why push it so hard?  And why are people acting like it is a game changer?

Just curious.  I love my PS3 for what it is -- high quality technology.  Leave well-enough alone for a while, Sony.

I hate trolls.

Systems I currently own:  360, PS3, Wii, DS Lite (2)

I don't think it's the slim PS3 itself, just that it means big cuts in costs for the manufacturing of the PS3, and thus, a greater chance of a price-cut.

mainly because people really just want a price cut, but a slim would also be cool! (but not at the prie of the ps3 is now)!!!

Smaller PS3 equals cheaper PS3 equals price cut

And I do believe the Japanese like small sleek technology so it should do good for sales in Japan

Also it's like a new PS3, the old PS3 has so much history and 90% of it is bad, the Slim is like a new beginning it could bring in a lot more consumers.

because with a price cut ps3 sales could possibly double this holiday season and it seems the slim is a sure way of re-launching the console and make a big splash on the market
(IMO)

This website is for the sales age people and simply put a PS3 slim pretty much guarantees that soon enough we will be getting a price cut. That means the console will sell more meaning that in I say 2 months from now we will have every Sony fanBOY (see how I said FANBOY not FAN) making a "is it over for 360" thread.

It's coming really really soon and is pretty much the worst kept secret in the gaming industry right now. You have people from different websites like IGN with saying on Gaf to wait until the end of this month to get a PS3 in a PS3 slim thread.

Putting 2 and 2 together (gives 4 har har har) the slim is coming very soon and will do well to increase sales. Add that the biggest Sony franchise is being hinted now to have a 2009 release (3rd worst kept secret in the industry) and you basically have big sales for the PS3.

Simply put a PS3 Slim + lower price (maybe) + GT5 + FFXIII (in Japan) = increase in sales.

That is what is making the fanboys so horny. kthxbi

I don't much care about the shape or size of it. It could be giving me the middle finger for all i care. i just want the price to drop so i can buy another ps3 already :p
