Forums - Sony - Has Sony Just Won The Holiday Console War?

I am so sick of hearing about the PS3 Slim increasing sales.

If anyone has any proof of someone not buying a PS3 cos its dimensions are a bit big then I'll gladly take back my vitriol.

I guess the writer forgot about Halo 3: ODST, Forza 3, and L4D2 :P.

Thye might not move that many consoles considering if people desperatly liked those franchises they would have already bought the console for the 1st parts of them as the console is at an affordable price for most.

@Carl

I defentely won't consider the Slim as being very likely, however more and more evidence only appears, most notably the huge price cuts, and sales that are being conducted by distributors (so already, the PS3 is getting a price cut, whether or not the motive is to clear inventory for a new Sony product, or just for the sake of clearing inventory.

I think we can count on GT5 being released this holiday. Ignoring Polyphony's statement that game is already finished, I'm sure Sony would rather rush the game out a few months early, than squander their only and last (save for FFXIII in Japan) "system seller" to a Q1 release.

You're missing the point. People think a $299 Slim will increase sales.

Your missing the point. If theres a smaller console it will mean they will be using less materials and the price will likely drop because of this.

I actually don't mind these threads about Sony making a comeback. I am a strong supporter of the Xbox360 (not neccessarily Microsoft) and Nintendo, but Sony needs to be strong. Look at what the competition has done to game quality lately. Come on Sony, get healthy!

Edit: Though I think that the posters of these threads should try to speculate about what the other manufacturers might do either in response to Sony's actions or to get in ahead of Sony's actions. By just stating what Sony is doing, and declaring a win (whatever that might mean) they do themselves and the readers a bit of a disservice. And yes this would apply to any thread for any console, I've just seen a preponderance of these threads for Sony lately.

Your forgetting the fact that most of the L4D sales are on the PC.

Still I wonder what will come of these rumors. I hope the Sony rep comes back to WalMart sometime soon. He is the one who confirmed WalMart;s fathers day PS3 bundle 4 weeks before it launched so he should know if there is a price cut within the next month or so.

Splinter Cell was the most awarded 360 game at E3, to the critics... it IS the most wanted 360 game.

@Carl

Critics definetly don't represent the main stream and weren't Xbox enthusiasts predicting HUGE numbers for ODST?

I'm not missing anything.

Price cut was point 2.

This article says a slim will increase sales.

I'm in agreement with everyone that the slim will be cheaper and it's the price that will increase sales. But it's not the dimensions that will increase sales which is what the article says!!
