Forums - Gaming - The REAL reason why WII is #1

The Wii doesn't have many good games at all. The reason it's selling so well is because of hype. Hype is what people like; they like to feel as though they're a part of special, and that's why console wars are so important for people. If it were about games, the 360 would sell signifigantly better than what it does. It not only has the best games out for it, it also has the largest library of games, as well. Yet, because of it's lack of hype, it doesn't sell anything close to what the Wii normaly does, which is why the Wii has already surpassed the 360 world wide numbers. Also, the same case can be made for the Sega Dreamcast, which a better variety of games available than what the PS2 launched with. However, the hype for the PS2 was so massive that the Dreacast never had a chance.

If you want to be ignorant, that's on you. The product with the most hype is always going to move the most units.

Its cause its cheap and appeals to many different groups of people, not just hardcore gamers.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

Wii has won #1 spot right now because of Wii sports. That's the title that got everybody excited, that's the title that sold the machine. Those other titles are good, and will probably help to continue to sell the machine, but those didn't drive the sales to the levels they are now.

The reason the Wii has hype is because people who buy it say that it is fun and entertaining... and when new people buy it, they think the same. Hype means nothing if it doesn't follow through. Lair had massive hype but it wasn't as good as it was hyped up to be. Hype means very little unless it lives up to it. That is why the Wii is doing well, it has lived up to its own hype.

Never argue with an idiot.  They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Living up to the hype isn't that important, actually. As long as the hype is massive and draws in new people, the overall quality of the product is irrelevant. Lair was never hugely hyped game. It never had the overall hype that games such as Mario Galaxy, Halo, and Smash brothers have. Furthermore, the games hype came mostly from a small number of people, thus limiting the overall hype the product actually had. Metal Gear Solid 4, for example, is an incredibly hype game that supposed to be a triple A tittle. However, if the game turns out to be very good tittle but not great title, it will not live up to the hype, yet it will still sell very well. New! Super Mario Bros. is a perfect example of a game not living up to it's hype. It didn't matter, though, as the game went on to sell at an incredible level. Hype is the key to selling a product.

IMO Sony has tried hard to win with the PSP, they just makreted it all wrong and idnt offer multiple SKUs...
