Forums - General - The greatest professional athlete in history?

Easy. Ross Rebagliati. Canadian Snowboarder. He won the first ever Snowboarding Olympic Gold medal at Nagano in 98, only to be disqualified when he tested positive for pot. He eventually got the medal back because... you know... Pot ain't exactly gonna ENHANCE your performance!

What can be greater than a Canadian pot smoking snowboarder that made olympic history?

He's our national hero!

But I think I gotta say Ali.

To all the people saying Ali..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sugar_Ray_Robinson

"Muhammad Ali, who repeatedly called himself "The Greatest" throughout his career, ranked Robinson as the greatest boxer of all time. Other Hall of Fame boxers such as Joe Louis and Sugar Ray Leonard said the same."

True, it just seems universaly people agree with Ali as the greatest Boxer.

Pelé(Football), Federer(tennis), Rocky Marciano(boxing), Tiger woods too, I dont know there are a lot I consider outstanding in their own sport.

Also, for Phelps, as someone already said, its pretty stupid to count his gold medals when comparing to other guys in other sports. In Tennis to win a medal you have to beat a lot of guys and its really hard, for football the same, while in swiming you get a lot of chances to get gold medals.

Michael Jordan.

I gave my answer earlier but some people are claiming that Michael Jordan wasn't the best basketball player ever and that's an absolute joke. MJ is every bit as good at basketball as Gretzky or Pele were in their respective sports. No one is even close and any other answer is ridiculous. I'm old enough to have seen Kareem, Dr. J, Magic, Bird, and many others play and I'm telling you that Michael Jordan is unquestionably the greatest basketball player ever.

If you saw Kareem, Dr. J and Magic play, why in the world would you think jordon is better than them?  They are all much superior players.

If jordon was the best, why did they change the rules to help him?  You know, they changed the rules to slow down players like Wilt Chamberlain and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

What do you mean by that? English isn't my native language.

Anyway...

Phelps took marihuana right? Alcohol is worse the marihuana, so it really isn't that bad...
Marihuana is soft drugs and alcohol is a hard drugs. I've used both and alcohol is more dangerous, believe me.

yeah, but alcohol is legal marihuana not.

It's legal to carry 3 grams Marihuana here for personal use. You have to smoke it alone though and not in public places.

And I'm guessing it's legal in pretty much every country when you have a serious disease like cancer. Medicinal marihuana is used to soften the pain. If it really was dangerous then they wouldn't subscribe it to them =/

You must be from L.A.  That's the only logical explanation for this comment.

They changed the rules so the Detroit Pistons could do anything but pull out a gun and not be called for a foul in order to try and slow Jordan down.  They didn't change them to help him.  I don't know what games you were watching.
