That's also a good reason.

The download code in stores was mentioned to stop people from saying retail would never go for it, and also because some people don''t like to buy things over the internet.

Its hardly the same as the cinema model at all.
I'm big on reducing barriers for legitimate customers. I think a game should be available both physically and digitally on the first day or release. Segregating it seems a bit silly as you're selling the exact same product. Offer choice and let them choose, that way customers and retailers are kept happy at the same time.
I would be pissed off if I had to wait six months for the physical copy.

Selling the exact same product would be requiring internet authentication like a PC game. That would eliminate used games and rentals. Next generation only E for everyone should not require authentication.

Wouldn't a "cinema model" be more like releasing arcade machines first, and console versions later? Your idea (or the one I just described) doesn't put the customer first, and that would be it's downfall. It's never the best strategy to try and alter customer behavior rather than examine customer behavior and meet their interests.
Right now, I'd only be interested in a handheld with DD because I wouldn't feel a significant advantage from DD on a home console (going to the shops/town/mall is not a big deal, I go there for food etc. anyway...). But carrying around DS games is annoying, and I have lost DS carts. Provided the handheld itself is not made worse by DD, I would be happy to have a DS with DD. Especially if the DD works over a mobile phone network, and I can purchase games using my account with that service.
A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

There is no way this would fly.
Sony and/or Microsoft makes the Movie Store for EVERY country, and releases DD movies on it weeks before the actual hard copy comes out. Im surprised Blu-Ray hasnt done this yet, since its more expensive why wouldnt they make them come out a few weeks earlier then the other movies
it could make more Blu Ray users
Large parts of the US still have 56k modems. Hell i did not even get DSL till early 2006, and i did not get faster DSL till 2009.
