Forums - Sony - Sony to discontinue 60GB PlayStation 3 in Europe

Sony PR marketing ploy to sell the 60GB's faster before launching their new SKU confirmed.

Shouldn't people have a problem with that though? I mean that's a pretty big ethics slip if they're saying "we're only going to sell the 40 gig after the 60 gig sells out" (for like a day or two until we ship some 80 gigs over!)

Around the Network

Looks like this story is based on a misquote. From that latest interview:

The Starter Pack as we have it at the moment right now – two games and an extra controller – will cease. We will produce the 60GB machine with all the features, including the backwards compatibility, plus two games and the one controller for GBP 349.

They're discontinuing the 60 gig Starter Pack, but replacing it with an unbundled 60 gig machine.

That makes me feel a little better about this whole thing. At least the world hasn't gone completely mad.

I only hope this is a temporary measure, and that they do change their minds and release the 80Gig (or other) model in Europe/Australia.
Sony - please listen up: I will never buy a PS3 that does not support PS2 compatibility.
I only hope that consumers vote with their heads, and force Sony to fix this atrocity.
Shams NOT happy :(

ok. so releasing a lower spec version of a console to become price competitive that dosen't suit your specific needs is an "atrocity".

tell you what, when Sony *only* offers this lower spec version without PS2 compatibility without offering another higher-spec version with PS2 BC, then by all means, complain to your heart's content.  The reality is that the ability to get PS2 BC in a ps3 hasn't dropped entirely, infact it has become cheaper. As has the entry level price for owning a ps3.
