Forums - Sony - Samsung: Sony set to slash prices on Bravias and Playstations

Glad to hear Panasonic is doing good. I've always liked their products, specially my new Plasma :)

Edit: Whoo! 1000 post! Only took me one year and 25 days

I guess increasing their debt by 63% to $10 billion in one year wasn't enough.

Anyway, of course Sony needs to be price competitive to keep their brand well known in this economic environment.

but that means theywillcontinue to report loss for , let'ssay, 1 more year  ??!!

how can shareholders be happy ?

Depends on how long and how severe the recession is, and how fast the recovery is. They could report a loss for several more years depending on that.

Shareholders just have to hope for the best, there's no easy and quick answer for Sony. They sell mostly higher-priced products, and that can't quickly change.

Samsung did not mention a Playstation in that article.

but you can't lose money during years !!!

(except if ur USA perhaps ...)

Time to Work !

If they and every other TV/electronics maker all cut their prices, how exactly is it going to improve their market share positions, and how is it going to help them improve their profitability in the short term?

Squilliam,

it means they are aiming longterm ...

Time to Work !

I more suspect that its a 'damned if you do' and 'more damned if you don't' move.

If they cut and everyone else cuts they lose less money than if everyone else cuts and they don't.

A price drop, sounds possible.

It's strange that Sony isn't doing better. It has a huge brand power thanks to Walkman and Playstation, which should affect many people into choosing Bravia LCDs over other companies' products.

I mean, if I go to the store I see the Sony TV is only like 10% more expensive than the corresponding Samsung, and Panasonics are even same price or more.

I mean, all the Playstation fans should choose the Sony TV right? Sony has so much for free from brand name. It's strange that they don't make more profit.

equivalent TV's from samsung are never more expensive than Sony, and the price differential is usually much more than 10%

lol, u got it backways. I say that the Sony TV is 10% more expensive than the equivalent Samsung.

If Samsung X780 cost $1000 then the corresponging Sony Bravia Y780 will cost $1100.
