Forums - Nintendo - iPhone more powerful than Wii?

LOL @ Cruisin (or whatever that Wii game is called).

I think I saw better looking PC games back in the early-mid 90s.

Screamer was released in 1995, and it looked better than that. Funny considering it didn't even support 3D acceleration on its release.

In the same way PSP is more powerful than the PS2, yes, iPhone is ahead -if slightly- of Wii.

Why? Is there any iPhone game with the effects and general good looks of, say... Super Mario Galaxy?

Let me correct my statement there. Obviously, the person who quoted this is a programmer, thus, has little to do with the GPUs of the respective systems. So basically, in his field, more RAM and a higher frequency CPU put the iPhone above the Wii. In that regard, he is right.

Programmers also work with the GPU, but regarding the CPU according to wikipedia the Wii's has a higher clock rate (not to mention, probably many more computation units).

If this is true, iphone has the advantage...

I was thinking of making that exact same comparison.

Actually quite a fair comparison too considering both games would reflect initial efforts on the platforms.

It would be fair if it used the good examples of early games, not the lousy ones. Excite Truck has OK graphics and it's a Wii launch game.

Nice try though :P

.....Really. Sega compared iPhone to Dreamcast. The RE4 comparision says it all. Its an impressive iPhone game Vs an impressive GC game. This is really going over the top.

The 600 mhz CPU on the iPhone has a performance of 1200 Dhrystone MIPS.

The Gamecube with its 485 mhz CPU achieved 1125 DMIPS back then. Not that this is concluding, but it's something :)

just show me a game that looks anywhere near as good as Mario Galaxy and i'll believe it. I haven't seen a game that looks better than good looking dreamcast games, they look more like really low budget dreamcast games or really good looking n64 games.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

where is the graphics don't matter and innovation and gameplay are more important?

while iphone is not powerful it support multitouch and have a accelerometer (like all mother phones).

thats where the ds comes in. and btw we're discussing power, not how fun the machines are.

so the iphone it's better than the DS and have touch screen thats mean it's better right?.

iphone have a  800mhz ARM Cortex 8 cpu  underclocked ot 600mhz and a PowerVR 200mhz capable of ps2+ and VGA 60fps recording.

by numbers  it can give good fight to the wii, just developers probably will never have to budget to.

they're the same thing aren't they?
