Forums - Nintendo - What Conduit could have looked like - Video analysis

"The Quantum3 engine is impressive, and it is doing techy stuff that Black(Xbox) never really attempted, but you can't help wonder what the result would be if there were better artists at work and a more coherent vision for the overall look of the game."

Interesting article. Watching the Black video, I could totally see the Quantum3 engine doing this on Wii. Like the article says, if there were better art direction then Conduit would have looked juicier.

On a side note, why dont Wii FPS games allow you to lock your reticule to the center of the screen?

hm, if they made money from the conduit they should definitely hire better artists

Huh? For what purpose?

Still, you can always use the Lock-on buttons in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption and The Conduit to keep the view on the center. You'll just have to remove your finger from the button when you want to turn around, and repeat. I guess it counts?

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

Watch my insane gameplay videos on my YouTube page!

I read that article, good read, but the one thing that I didn't understand is that the author said that while the Wiimote for FPS is an advantage over the analog stick controllers, BUT the rub is you have to point off the screen to turn...

...Isn't this what the bounding box is for? I always hate when articles are written without a "hands-on" of what you're writing about...

The Interweb is about overreaction, this is what makes it great!

...Imagine how boring the interweb would be if everyone thought logically?

Because unless you are a god or a statue, you can't keep your hand still enough.

There needs to be some area of leeway in the middle or else every tiny twitch in your wrist will result in the screen shaking.

In addition there would be no visual feedbak as to where you are actually pointing on screen... so if you point to the right to turn right, the cursor would remain in the middle and you would have no idea how to get back to the central position without having to fine tune your hand each and every time.

interesting points. What do people think about the article?

A decent read. This game was HVSs first "real" game, so we will have to see what they can do next. The Conduit was their first go. Second time around will hopefully be better. They need to come up with an extremely unique setting. ie. make a game with aliens and people will think of HD cousins like Resistance.

If they can use there tech and combine it with a unique environment it will be really cool I think.

An interesting read although there is a mistake regarding The Conduit having ragdoll physics. Thankfully it doesn't (I really can't see the attraction, it looks crap imo) and uses motion capture for the animations of dying enemies.

And the Quantum3 engine has come along in leaps and bounds since The Conduit went gold. Their imposter instancing technique can allow hundreds or even thousands of models on screen at once without a significant drop in framerate. Obviously, the more detailed the models are the less the engine will be able to handle but it wouldn't surprise me if The Grinder has 100+ nicely bump mapped monsters/undead types on screen at once when it's released.

A proper Dead Rising clone with a working camera anyone..?!? Capcom would have a bloody fit lololol

The Conduit had a spin button.

"In terms of The Conduit's gameplay, the point-and-shoot system is something of a double-edged sword. Pointing at the opponent and shooting is obviously something that is a huge advantage for the Wii over the PS3 and Xbox 360. However, what isn't so welcome is the notion of dragging the reticule all the way over to the edges of the screen to spin around on the spot. Insofar as the aim-and-fire mechanic works well, the notion of essentially pointing off screen to move your in-game "head" feels somewhat counter-intuitive. It makes me wonder whether hand and head-tracking via Project Natal on 360 would have the precision required to produce a more immersive interface (gut feeling: head yes, hand no)."

WTF?

Did these guys ever play a PC shooter? no. well no duh this comment sounds really stupid.

And no offence, but moving my head to move my onscreen camera? if I move my head does the TV move with it? no, then WTH?

The rest of the article seems fair enough.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.
