who cares? if anyone can afford ps3 and will buy it it's a given that, that person already have hdtv/monitor with hd or hdready or will buy one with ps3.

Most PAL TVs support 60hz, and I mean like 99%. Since Gears 1 doesn't run at 50hz and there hasn't been a massive 30 page thread blowing the issue out of proportion it can't be a significant issue. Since the issue got past the scrutiny of those who would love to bring it to everyones attention it must be a really insy lil issue. |
By that logic, one can say that it is the same thing with 50hz issue in Europe for those using SD, which is to say that it's a non issue since there hasn't been a massive 30 page thread in the past.
The only reason it's an issue now, is because someone put it out there for people to know, the same article could have been written putting the 360 in the spot light, and how certain SDtv which gamers own won't be able to play 60hz games on their 50hz TV, regardless of the size of the issue at hand.
In anycase the article goes on and on how developers should consider the SD users who own a HD console when making games, and how they should spend time making the SD just as good as the HD.....Eurogamer this isn't the wii, these are HD consoles, they were designed with a progressive type mentality, to push technology forward, increase adoption rate of HDtv by providing the content that people may want on them, now I'm not saying to simply ditch the SD crowd, but at the end of the day these are HD consoles and people have to realise this, so anyone who has a HD console now must have had a thought of eventually upgrading to a HDtv when money allows, even more so if said person has bought any HD media.
Your type of mentality Eurogamer is to stagnate technology, which in a short term is ok, but it hurts sales and the industry as a whole as well as hurting you in the long run ....it's the light bulb situation, we have the tech to making extremely long lasting light bulbs to the point of outlasting us, but what happens once everyone has one?....you and your business are fucked...you can't have a business if it ain't doing any business now can you, the same goes with the tech industry.
As with anything there is a transition period with some people being early adopters, some sitting on the fence, and the others opposed to the idea of change.....the same thing happened in the past with transitions with tape to CD, VHS to DVD, even in politics this occurs, it's the way things are, it's the way we as humans are, we are in most part progressive creatures, it's because of this type of mentality that we are were we are today, otherwise we could still have been living like primitive animals...so grateful that I was born when I was, cuz I get to enjoy some awesome tech and advances in technology.
my 2 cents ^_^

Trust me, if there was even an ounce of an issue to be made out of Gears of War not working, it would have been blown sky high.
The difference here is that its a subtle and less examined issue. It wasn't possible to look at it in detail without the ability to measure framerates. Whats left essentially a subtle and easily dismissed difference, very much a subjective thing. Since a lot of people still game on SDTVs, I have two friends waiting for the release of Tekken 6 for example they will have to play that game at 50FPS whereas I can play it on my PS3 at 60FPS. This is actually a serious issue for my friends now that they know about it, they are tossing up an HDTV + PS3 or Xbox 360 right this moment.
For some people the TV doesn't matter to them, and they don't want to be pushed into things that they don't need. Most people are fairly happy with a mid sized SDTV from what I've seen. Technology may push forward but the experiences that some people seek may very well not. Upgrading and spending $800 U.S. for a marginally better picture isn't a good cost/benefit for a lot of people.
Actually Eurogamer is on the cutting edge, and especially this guy (Grandmaster on B3d.com) is on the cutting edge of the cutting edge. Btw those long lasting lightbulbs don't exist, or are impractical in some way. If they did then the company which made them would become insanely rich before going out of business. Lightbulbs have very low margins FYI.
Tease.
One of the reasons I didn't get a PS3 at launch was because I had no HD TV so I had no benefit of Blu Ray and didn't want to play games without enjoying the graphics which HD consoles are all about.
(well besides the astounding price it came out at, I always intended to buy one for FF).
HD TVs started at 32" and were a minimum of 500€ a year ago, 1000€ for console and screen is a big deal.
(I went for a 28" PC monitor :p .... then got lured by a cheap 360, then FF jumped ship...)

WTF? You do realise that having an HD TV just isn't a priority for a lot of people. I hope you do anyway. Just because I have a $2000 PC, $5000 53" Bravia doesn't mean that I don't know people who could pay cash to do the same who still have SDTVs.

Those people should stick with last gen then. You pay less, you get less, it's as simple as that.
*interesting note, the expensive cars in Miami vice (the tv show) actually contained a volkswagen beetle engine. Found that after looking for my F1/volkswagen comparison.

PSN name: Gazz1979 (feel free to add me, but please put your Vgchartz name in the message!)
Battlefield 2: Gazz1979
Actually they are only interested in Tekken 6. They find none of the games released on the PS3 interesting thus far. There are some on the Xbox 360 they like, but only a few and they like the PS brand so... When the time comes they will buy a PS3 most likely.
Tease.
