Forums - Nintendo - New Silent Hill: Shattered Memories Videos

Oh look. Kylie Dog is complaining about an upcoming Wii game. Is it that time of minute yet?

And he's using the standard "I refuse to believe there will be anything in the game that I haven't just watched in a video" You don't know what the enemies and combat/escaping will be like as the game progresses. So why do you just assume that Konami's trying to reboot their series with a horribly repetitive and lame version that strips out all fun?

But I must share your sentiment. I don't know if I can enjoy a Silent Hill game without the traditional near broken combat. Really, did anyone actually enjoy the fighting gameplay in SH 2? I want my scares to come from the game's atmosphere and creatures, not from panicking as my combat doesn't work properly.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

I'm interested, but not convinced yet.

What i'm concerned about is how the run away mechanic is going to work, do you have to just stay alive for a certain amount of time or hide in a place until the monsters decide to go away?

It has the potential of being extremely hard to get away since the game knows where you are at every instant. Or it could be really easy if there are guaranteed ways to always fend off the monsters. (get a flare, drop it in a door way, and hide in a dumpster till they go away.

Seems like a tough thing to balance, but i'll keep my eye on this.

I don't know about Silent Hill 2, but the environment and such from Silent Hill 1 and 3 spooked my friend and I on a few occassions. The school locker room from Silent Hill 1 scared the crap out of me when that body fell out of the locker.

I'd say it's a mixed bag for me. I'd rather not spend my time fighting a combat system, but I'm not sure about the lack of an ability to fight. Will you get some kind of defensive move or something other than shaking off enemies? Games that have you constantly fleeing like Clocktower 3 and Haunting Ground for example still allow you some form of defense in the form of throwing holy water or kicking and having a dog defend you.

Still... I'm not that interested in horror games anyway.

I suspect that the yellow arrows are just there because this is the tutorial phase of the game. I doubt the game will yell you every time you need to take a photo of a ghost, either.

There was a much better, more exciting escape video from E3, I think. Maybe I'll track it down.

Do you think I'll ruin my enjoyment of the Wii game if I play the original PS1 Silent Hill first..?

Okay, great stuff...will have a look on Ebay later. If any of you have any old PS1 games you'd like to play again without bothering to dig out your Playstation I'd highly recommend you install the Homebrew Channel and the Beta version of WiiSX, the PSX emulator for the Wii. There are a few audio and graphical issues with some titles but I'm expecting that to get sorted out when it's properly released. Feels really weird playing Sony games on a Nintendo console though lol.

Legal disclaimer: You should note that it's only legal to rip or download games that you actually own for emulators, otherwise you're breaching copyright!

There's a compatibility list here. Quite impressive for an early Beta version.

It looks impressive. I really dig the graphics and effects. The lighting looks great, animations are smooth, and the ice effects and partical effects look great also. It seems to have a sort of exploration type feel, so the yellow arrows would really kill the experience IMO.

I have mix feelings about it. First of all, the graphics, lighting, effects and environments are all great. I really liked how Silent Hill turned into the Nightmare world in real-time. The camera thing was pretty sweet as well.

It looked like the player had a hard time grabbing objects. Also I'm not digging the 'no-combat' thing. The guy had a hard time waggling the enemies off; it's going to be difficult shaking them off due to them being pretty fast. I suppose it adds a lot to the scare factor since they'll always be on your tail. I'm also concerned about boss battles. Are boss battles going to be something like press switches to trap him or something? As of right now, it's a rental.

Looks pretty good to me. I like it when they change things around as long as it's still good. Rather than developers using the same old stuff over and over again.

Looks really good. I'll check it out a few months after release. I've never played a SH before.
