Oh man that was the worst if you were playing on HDTV's and the game didn't have support for progressive scan. Before they finally fixed it, the games looked really bad. Once they did however, they added upscaling and a blurring option to make the older games look better. They made that feature even better by enabling you to do it in-game soon after that.

I just played MGS3, and I can't believe it works!

 I have a feeling that the majority of people that want ps3s don't know nor care about the ps3's BC status.

 Yeah, the ps3 plays damn near everything, except for games from competing platforms.  It plays Blu-Ray discs, ps1/2/3 games, CDs, SACDs, CD-RW, DVD-RW, etc. etc.

lol, the hardest about playing PS1 and PS2 games on the PS3 is if you're using the Sixaxis because of it's R2 and L2 buttons, but you get used to it pretty quick.

I think i'll stick to Black. Not much of a "totally silver" person. :) Opened an 80gig just to test it out before cutting the UPC. I'd have to say, BC is definitely important to me. Upscaled PS2 games, especially kingdom hearts and final fantasy. That's a must!

something tells me this isn't an isolated case among current & potential ps3 owners.

For those who've never seen the upscaling in action - it makes a difference, especially on HDTV screens. Generally, you have to switch to widescreen within the game menu, then turn on blurring and full screen on your PS3 menu (click on the PS button in mid-game and scroll down to the visual options). Makes God of War 2 and Final Fantasy 12 look outstanding. Note that GoW2 requires a special input code during the startup sequence to unlock the HD visuals... kind of a pain, because I always forget the damn code, but does look nice.

I hope this "mat finish" will also count for Japan then, I can't stand the glossy look. My PSP slim has also a "mat finish" now and at least no irritating fingerprints anymore on the hand-held, except on the screen of course. At least no more sore hands because of polishing my PSP :P

@Slorgnet, so the upscale upgrades really provides a better image for FFXII? Last time I checked FFXII was on my JP PS2 before the thing died and it looked "horrible" on my LCD TV. Kingdom Hearts 2 literally gave me a headache.
