All these things are generally liked by young people, most people haven't got a very well developed taste for art and entertainment when they're young. Most old people don't either.
The moral of this story is people suck. Get over it.

Onyxmeth is right of course but still, I hope to god you Americans can contain the infestation before it spreads to Europe. As of now the farthest we have come is a small poster for a limited showing of the Hannah Montanah movie and a badly dubbed show on Nick. The Jonas Brothers are still unknown... let's keep it that way.

I said "...children and teenagers...". Regardless that doesn't mean someone outside the age bracket can't listen to them. Somehow the Jonas Brothers managed a 4 star review for their last album in Rolling Stone, and was actually pretty well received overall. It's not my type of music, but I'm not going to start judging people because their taste in music is much different than mine. I think the problem here is this music snobbery I see going on in the topic that people that don't listen to them are inherently more qualified to breathe oxygen.

Its turning in a casual/hardcore type of conversation.
I would respect them more if they actually played their music live and didnt have a band playing behind and all they do is jump with their guitars and sing their easy to sing songs.
Anyway I dont hate them, the thing that pisses me off its their fans(the kind off people we would call fanboys here).
So I dont respect them at all as musicians and their fans annoy me.
Also, I dont read rolling stone, so I dont know how they are on reviews or if they made it comparing to what others would call great music or by their own jonas brother standard.

Because the like bad actors, poor music, and CRAP CRAP CRAP CRAP!
no offense but...people like this need to not exist!
| Onyxmeth said: Gotta love the answers here. So informed. Basically, these acts are cross-marketed towards children and teenagers, and the music is made to appeal to their age groups. Believe it or not, whether these acts exist or not, children are not going to listen to the same indy rock scene the majority of you listen to. That doesn't make them stupid either. They're just young. My three year old listens to "The Wheels On The Bus Go Round and Round". She doesn't care for Arctic Monkeys. Go figure. It doesn't make her stupid, it doesn't mean she has no taste, she's not an idiot, she just happens to listen to music created to appeal to her age group. Now she's getting into Miranda Cosgrove a bit through iCarly. This is the way you get children interested. Maybe Radiohead should put a sticom out on Nickelodeon. |
I agree so much. My little sister loves Hannah Montana. Her music and the show. She doesn't have bad taste, she just likes the music that is targeting her.

Well I don't believe in the "hardcore/casual" argument, so let's not even go there.
They're entertainers. Respect them for that, because that is really what they are. Michael Jackson and Madonna are two other people more admired as entertainers than they are as full on musicians. In fact, I don't believe MJ ever came out once on stage rocking the guitar, drums, bass, keyboard, or any other instrument and he's still considered a fantastic artist. All he did live is sing and dance.
An entire group of fans cannot be described as fanboys, no matter what the thing is. You may hate the overly obsessed fans of these acts, but that is merely a subsection of the entire fanbase.
Again, respect them as entertainers, because that is what they're really doing. You have to realize these kids do both music and acting, and that usually is a sign that someone is aspiring to entertain far more than perfecting a craft like a musician would. Also, the youngest Jonas brother has a long history of broadway under his belt, cementing the notion it's more about the entertainment aspect.
The Jonas Brothers third album came in the top 50 of the year in 2008 for Rolling Stone. The album got a 4 star review. I'm not saying this is definitive to the quality of the album. In fact I have many bones to pick with Rolling Stone. I just wanted to point out there are people that are considered to have similiar "good taste" in music that see this as good music also.

Oh and if it's any comfort, the kids will grow out of. And as they grow, the stars of today will probably be forgotten by tomorow. Of course, something other horrid will take their place but hey, we can all hope that at some point there will be some music aimed at tweens we elder more jaded fans can enjoy as well.
I scoffed my little nephew when he got a 5ive CD for his birthday at the age of 12. When I ask about it now he's actually ashamed. 5 Years from now, you will all have the opportunity to shame the current Jonas Brothers' fanbase.
Oh and just for good measure, when I was a kid I listened to what my father listened. I grew up with Pink Floyd, suck on that Jonas'!

Ha! I'm listening to Pink Floyd atm. A agree the kids like the music because it is full of show and targeted at them.. speaking of..
Am I the only one that is creeped out by this??
The kids love them, theres no other way saying it. I probably wouldn't turn the channel of a radio if a song by the Jonas Brothers came on if I listened to that kind of station. They appeal to the age group they target and there are others outside that target that like them.
High School Musical, I'm making no comment on. But I have flipped through the channel and kept it on HM. For some reason I find the overacting entertaining.
