With Natal and the PS Wand yet to launch, I don't think a 10 million gap will guarantee MS victory over Sony. It certainly helps their chances, but we have several years yet to go with this generation. |

this will be intresting, after the holidays if nothing changes

Best console this gen to develop for (360)
Massive support for 360 and 360 gets its lions share of pc games
vs
Hard to develop for console, hardly any pc game support (hello valve)
£129 price point with room for a price cut
vs
£289 and no room for price cut (only hope is bundles and a slim)
360 to be 10,850,000 ahead by jan 1st.

Nope at launch it was closer to 6 million. MS bragged about shipping 10 million by the end of 2006, not by PS3 launch. MS stuffed the channel at the end of 2006 to announce the 10 million shipping number.
Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.
With or without a PS3 Slim and/or price cut the 10 million gap will hit before the end of the year, people are expecting way too much from a ps3 slim and/or ps3 price cut specially when MS will match it in every way (360 slim and/or price cut),
If last December was anything to go by I'd even say the gap could reach 11 or 12 million by the end of December 2009 or January 2010.....
It depends on what happens over the next few months.
Its more a question of Sony's goals and their methods to achieve them vs Microsofts goals and methods to achieve them and how they interact as they each make their respective moves come the holiday season.
Tease.

Last year, xbox had a pricecut right before the holiday season, therefore it sold much more than ps3
This year, Sony will most likely be getting a slim and pricecut, as it hasnt had one in a large while. If xbox has a cut as well, I don't think it will be that huge of an impact (as the large pricecut was last year). Even if X360 announces a slim, then the strategy would be the same for both consoles, but then again, Japan gets FFXIII which will be a large boost for PS3 (at least an extra 100k in the holidays), as well as a probable GT5. These will be bigger HW pushers compared to ODST and forza 3.
IMO
best case scenario for Xbox: 9-9.5 million gap max
Worst case scenario: 7 million gap
