Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo needs a PSN/XBL service for multiplayer next gen

@OP
I have the best idea, better than the PSN and Live. The PC model. Yeah then we don't have crappy lack of inerconectivty between consoles.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

I'm glad it has sparked a bit of discussion. I just want an easier, hassle free way to play online with people. Would it be nice to have some of the features PSN/XBL has? Of course. The only Wii game I EVER played online was Brawl and that was a disaster. Lag was horrendous, and it just wasn't as fun as playing locally. I'd have LOVED to been able to play Brawl more, but it just drove me nuts.

Another thing I love are achievements/trophies. Nintendo needs to do things like that as well, gives game that extra replayability as well as bragging rights with friends. It's like filling the National Dex in Pokemon D/P/Plat. But EVERYONE can see you did it. *clap* I'm a dreamer I guess, but if Nintendo really wants my continued business, it's what I want. I consider myself a casual/core gamer. Not hardcore, but core enough that if I don't get the things I want, I simply will invest where I can get it. :(

your lack of knowlege affects your viewpoints(picking the only wii game with the most miserable online service and jugding the whole reality from it is lacking).Several wii games allows you to register friends and have seamless lagless gaming without FCs, namely EA games and so forth. Some include built Achievements and so forth.Having myself the PSN experience it doesnt makes a big difference to me.Since im having fun basically playing online with my friends online on the wii, which is the core element of online gaming(the rest is sparkle really), the amount of fun i get online is certainly more or the same i get with the PS3(and in the past, with the 360 live gold service i had). Nintendo doesnt needs to do much to be alright. Not to please you and they certainly wont care about you. But dont worry, they will get rid of the fcs and add some bells and whistles on the future, just to keep the process streamlined.

You all really think just declaring they need online will somehow mean they actually do? Try getting evidence it's actually hurting them. And I mean evidence that you aren't interpreting that way.

Already provided evidence.  You know, the part about how I've BARELY touched the Wii in favour of the 360 due to the lack of online experience the Wii currently offers?  I can guarantee anyone else who's in favour of a stronger online presence from Nintendo is in the same boat, or something similar at least.

Yes to be honest I bought The Conduit hoping for better online capabilities. But without Wii speak in World Wide or regional needing to enter tons of friend codes. I quickly threw the Conduit on my shelf, nobody from my friends list was ever on and it just didn't seem worth the hassle when I can play Halo3 on Live with chat and vehicles.

If Nintendo improved their network I would gladly stop shelling out my 59$ a year and go with a Nintendo system instead. But the fact is Nintendo's system is flawed.

As for evidance that its hurting them. When Halo3 launched I remember their being 500,000+ gamers on live at any given time. Today that has dropped to between 40,000-70,000 depending on whether your playing social slayer or regular mode. That is essentiall 500,000 x 59.99$ = 29,995,000 in pure profit. Thats almost 30-million dollars earned from Live on the Halo3 launch alone. Today Halo brings in 4,199,300$ in X-Box Live subscriptions.

Thats only talking Halo its not even including all the other gamers who play other games online. Thats evidance that XBL is making a crap load of money and Nintendo is failing to generate such money. Sure Nintendo is giving us their service for free but if they improved their service thats less money in the competitions wallet.

Every dollar Microsoft gains from live is one less dollar spent on Nintendo products! Thats evidance enough for me!

the problem is that the profit is not enough, nor the online capabilities proved to be enough of a cash.To nintendo thats petty cash lost. For all the profit made with the online services of live, Xbox360 is still getting much less profits as a whole compared to nintendo wii.A lot of that profit for instance, is lost repairing and replacing 360s.

While your right Microsoft lost 130 million this fiscal year, the losses don't change the fact that Microsoft is still making a fortune on Live. If you argue that the proceeds are quickly absorbed by Microsoft's other failures you have a slight point. However I went on Halo3 today and their was over 300,000 gamers online at that point. Thats millions upon millions of dollars not being spent on Nintendo products.

Yes Nintendo makes more then enough money to ignore the 30-million that Live makes. However every dime Microsoft makes is another dime not spent on Nintendo hardware/Software. 30-million at least I don't know how many Live users their are, I remember hearing 4 million a while make. That would be a loss of 239 Million dollars that isn't being spent on Nintendo software. About a quarter billion dollars, thats a heck of alot of profit.

Any large profit for Microsoft is bad for Nintendo. Thats proof enough that Nintendo needs to rework its online experiance. Once Sony or Nintendo offer a true Live like experiance Live will be sunk. Why would someone pay for a service another console offers free. But thus far only Microsoft offers the truly emmersive X-Box Live. It wouldn't take all that much effort on Nintendo's part to bring their network up to speed!

I think frnd codes are a lousy way of saying...online protection. You know what.. parents need to monitor their kids better. And nintendo could spend a few millions from the billions they make to monitor content on IM's/email. This while crappy online policy isnt going to work for them forever.

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.

Even if some of that stuff is true, and I really don't care if it is or not, what's the point of it all without a universal system?  It may not matter to you, but it does to me, so "lack of knowledge" doesn't affect my OPINION at all.

They will have to please me, as they will have to please the other "core" gamers, otherwise the success they have found with the Wii simply won't translate next generation. :/

well sorry if i sounded anal, but every time i find a post of the xbl sort, the poster explains about brawl and how its it turned to be his only online experience with the wii. I rolled my eyes hoping you werent that case again but it was.Core gamers do not help, and the success of the wii was because nintendo realized they cant rely on the core gamers, even tho the terms are kinda stupid.Whatever works for the casual gamer is whatever it should be done. But FCS doesnt help the casual gamer so thats why they will be removed.
