Forums - Gaming - Questions about DS / PSP

So.. I'm thinking of buying a DS and/or a PSP. But I happen to have a few questions mainly because of all the different versions available.

DS - I checked the prices and was shocked to find out that the DSi cost roughly ~100$ more than the DS lite.. is it really worth spending an extra 100 bucks on that? Is the difference that noticeable?

PSP - I'm confused about all the UMD vs. digital distribution.

- If you buy the UMD would you be able to install it on the PSP so you don't have to use the UMD?

- Are all PSP-games available in the form of digital distribution or are some only available in UMD-format? If they aren't would that mean you can't play older games that are only on UMD-format on the PSP-Go?

I'm sure there's something I forgot to ask but oh well..

Any answers would be appreciated

You cannot install a game from the UMD to the PSP (only certain games, but you still need the UMD to play it)

Dsi doesnt play GBA games, but it has a better menu, and plays music files along with other extra features including a memory cad slot, a camera, and dsi ware store.

Also you can play every game out whether it be digital or UMD on the PSP right now.

The DS lite is far better value than the DSI. The difference isnt really that noticible. DS lite is far > than normal DS. The difference isnt so clear between I and lite.

If you buy UMDs you use them like consoles, insert and play.

I dont think you can install games on the PSP via the UMD.

The PSP GO offeres Digital Distribution, if you plan on having lots and lots of games it might be the way to go, its so much more expensive that i dont see it as i good choice at its current price point.

A few months ago i would have said get the DS. But, recently with many, many, many PSP game announcements i have changed my views. PSP is now of equal value to the DS and it all depends on what games you would like.

Resident Evil
Metal Gear Solid
Gran Turismo

and countless others have ignited my interest in the previous "empty" handheld.

The DS others more classics and proabably a better variety, but PSP others the "hardcore" games as i have mentioned and has graphics.

Hope this has helped answer your questions. If you have any other questions dont hesitate to ask

The DSi costs about 40 € / US$ more than the DS, not 100.

@Football Fan

Do you even know what the DSi features? Because the difference is clear..

DSi should not cost 100$ more than the DS Lite more like 20-30 more

I don't think you can install UMD onto a memorystick (which you'll first have to buy)

Sony are trying to get as many games available for digital distribution, and most games will, but I'd guess there will be games UMD only. (though there also are a few games that were not released on UMD and only available in the PS Store)

Well I live in Denmark and due to the low dollar (well I'm not 100% updated to it's value) it should be around 80-100$ more expensive (investigated it a bit more). Well, I might be able to find it cheaper if I look around a bit, but that was from two of the most common electronics stores.

Also thanks for the answers, I think I get the how the UMD/ DD works now.

I'm not too sure if I should get a DSi or lite though. I know the DSi has a slightly larger screen but I don't need features like camera and music player.

Edit: Another major electronics store sold it ~50$ more expensive, thats pretty close to what you're saying (internet price only though).

Is there a special reason why you want to buy your future systems from US ? Handhelds are region-free.

Buy them from a European store. The DSi costs 40€ more than the Lite on e.g. amazon.de and £35 more on amazon.co.uk.

Buy a DS Lite only if you want to play GBA games on your DS.

And as you said "DS and/or a PSP" in the OP, I would say: Get both, they are both worth it and got extremely different libraries which complement each other.

Oh did you know the PSP was a console? You can hook it up to your TV and play "Movies", "Music" "your photos" "Internet features and browsing", and "games" including your Psone classics?

=O

Has there been any improvements on that feature? When I had the PSP 2000 and I hooked it up to the TV, neither of the three games I tried (God of War, Silent Hill, Disgaea) would fill the TV. It would just produce a much smaller box in the middle of my screen. Also the picture was horrid and blurry on everything I tried, including videos. It didn't look even remotely what it looked like on the little screen, and text in Disgaea became a pain to read because it was getting blurred.
