Forums - Sony - My top 5 most unforgettable moments of Metal Gear Solid 1 (major spoilers)

this is funny because it just shows how Kojima have failed to deliver a simimlar experience with MGS2/3 (never played MGS4, dont spoil plz).

I mean :

MGS2 : the boss fight are far from amazing and the overall boss are lacking background story
Fortune+Vampire were nice
but Solidus has no soul
and the MG Ray were so weak ....

MGS3 : it is very funny how
The Boss/Volgin/Ocelot/The End were VERY good boss and have some background story
while The Pain/The Fear were so poor ...

I have always thought that Kojima never understand completely what made the strenght of MGS1, at least, he never understood how the boss character in MGS1 were so good and that it was an important part of the game experience

When psycho mantis read my memory card and said i played CAstlevania and Silent hill...this was the highlight of that gaming generation.

Good list.

"Blood from the East flows within your veins"
~Vulcan Raven

MGS1 truly is the best game of all time imo
the atmosphere, character development, and gameplay are still unsurpassed imo

Good top 5.

I like to consider myself a very nostalgic person and MGS is my favoite of the series because we never get to truely play as Solid Snake in any other game.

In the second we got a couple of hours.  In the third we were Big Boss.  In the PSP game, we were Big Boss.  In the fourth, we were Old Snake.  There has not been a game since MGS that I have been able to play as THE SOLID SNAKE.

Without spoiling MGS4 for you, let me just say the progression of the boss battles just gets worse in that game. Half of your bosses battles are semi-rehashes of MGS1 bosses and have zero of the personality those characters in MGS1 had. You had a repeat of an MGS2 battle. You had one wholy great and unique battle in the end of Act 4, and you had another rehash battle at the end that was acutally fantastic in every way because of how well it closed out the series. Overall though, bosses were a huge fail in that game when putting them up against the first.

To add to this list, or maybe replace something, I need to comment that the moment on the elevator when you're CODECing with Otacon and he can't figure out why the weight limit on the elevator is being exceeded, and then he gets all in the screen's face and realizes soliders are in the elevator with Snake in invisible camo, which ends in a sudden death match between Snake and four soldiers in ridiculously close quarters is just a fantastic scene.

**MGS4 Spoiler**Great list that I agree with, although Raidens return (as a badass) was awesome in MGS4, and all the mystery about Vamp also was fantastic

Actually I think I might be the only one here who thinks that MGS3's boss battles were on par with MGS1's.... But Unfortunately the fanboy in me recognizes that the one disappointing thing about MGS4 were the B and B corps. But those fights were actually pretty sweet gameplay wise.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

I totally agree with #1 and I loved the part where they tell you to switch controller slots!!!!

Nice list. Metal Gear Solid was full of awesome events. One of my favorite moments in the game was when Snake was tricked into initiating the nuclear launch instead of preventing it with the PAL key. Prior to that, you had to take the key to a cold and hot environment. I agree with #1 though.

he was talking to otacon :P

but yeah that was rather nerve wracking. but it was rather dumb as well that they've been there the whole time but they didn't do anything until snake realized they were there.
