Forums - Nintendo - Metroid Prime 3 & Metroid Other M.

Ok... I love the Metroid Prime series.... Love it. I finally made some serious headway into Prime 3 today, and I wish all games were as immersive as it is. The sense of solitude, exploration, and immersion is probably deeper than any other game this generation. From the simple interaction of flipping switches with the wii remote... To the combat being extremely intuitive... The functions of the grapple beam, and even the tagteam of Samus and her only real friend Her ship. It is quite impressive really. It also got me start thinking about some of the explosive opportunities in other M that can only truly be realized in third person or a 2.5d / 3d experience.

The ability to screw attack into a grapple into a wall jump into a cliff hanging scenario into a morph ball... that would just make you feel badass.

Implementing the grapple beam as a proper weapon in samus' arsenal.

The abilties of Samus can become really powerful in the sense that her dodges and such can be very inventive. Imagine jumping over a space pirate as he shoots morphing into the morph ball boost balling away flipping out and bringing the pain on said space pirate... The scenario's drive me crazy.

Here is to team ninja and a glorious Other M.

P.S. read the metroid manga it is a good read and can give a few hints into the story of Other M.

If you though MP3 was great because of its exploration, solitude, and immersion, youll love the MPTrilogy next month. MP3 is highly reguarded by most serious Metroids fans as the easiest, simplist, and most linear of the series.

I have played all three... I like MP#3 the best... to be honest I am a metroid nut. I have 100% completion on all Metroid games save hunters on the Ds ( i never got it ). the only thing i am a bigger nut for is Zelda... I just thought the pacing of MP3 was great... and the added little touches were just really nice... Not to mention Elysia and Norion have fantastic and almost unparalled Art Direction, Only Aether's light world and Phendrana come close for me... I do think Prime 1 had the best music and probably the best boss fights. Though i loved the Gandrayda and first ridley boss fight in Prime 3 a LOT.

All in All i will get the trilogy if my Prime 3 save file is safe... I would like to see all the extra concept art, I am into that stuff in the metroid and zelda series.

l still haven't beaten the first one.

I love Metroid since the NES days and loved MP3,MP1 is IMO the very best in the prime series.  I was not so big on 2 since it was link to the past in first person with a gun shooting in purple mode.

Other M to me looks to bring back the old school super metroid with revised modern presentation/gameplay which should be freakin sweet.

^ I would say that is a sin, I would recommend get the trilogy if you have a Wii... Simply because all three are absolutely fantastic... I can't wait until my self phrophesized news that Retro is working on 2 games comes true, both original IP's. I will support anything Retro creates even if it is a cooking simulation.

Nope Metroid Prime Hunters deserves that title. Oh and if you mean the whole series both fusion and metroid II are more linear than MP3 imo.

MPT doesnt recognize old MP3 saves. Youll start from scratch. I dont mind, i beat MP3 maybe 5 times, ill do it again.

I think MP3 is the weakest in the Prime series. Its still an incredible game though. The exploring is minimized, made much easier, and the game tells you where to go constaintly (even with the hint system turned off). I think Prime 1 is the best, then MP2, and close behind MP3. Bosses are great in Echoes, but the beams lacked creativuty IMO. The ammo system was tedious too.

@ Ryudo, MP1 was my favorite game on the cube (until WW) and it certainly has the trickiest puzzles (maybe because i've just gotten really good at solving them now after three prime games) and probably the most content of the three, But the story in MP3, the presentation, the interaction with your ship (always bugged me in the first one that i had this cool looking ship that stays docked in the same place all the time). And the near flawless controls win me over...

Pros in Prime 1
Difficulty over Prime 3
Content
Puzzles
Boss Fights
Combination Beams

Cons in Prime 1
useless ship
Not as immersive
Grapple beam w/out shooting

Pros in Prime 3
Story
Presentation
Controls
Immersion
Ship(everything about how it is integrated except below)

Cons in Prime 3
No Chozo Ghosts
Wish I could do more in said ship
Also Wish i could use the ship missiles in any outdoor area to fight baddies, like a separate nuke for those fights with waves of enemies.
Final suit upgrade is too PURPLE, should be more uber like prime 2

I never really thought any of the prime games were really linear, but I think that has to do with my playstyle as I remember everything new as I pass it and before i progress to said task, i go back to try to see which new upgrades i can get with whatever upgrade i acquired... instead of just doing it all at the end... It is a much slower way to play (I don't do it the second time through) but it is thoroughly more enjoyable and well just how i think metroid was designed.
