Forums - Microsoft - Game Ideas for NATAL

Dodge ball - we already saw this at the E3 demo

What other games could NATAL do?

-Dancing game of some sort.

-Skip rope

-Punch Out! Yes, something like Punchout could probably work very well with Natal.

IMO the options are very limited though.

Rail gun shooter like HotD? It would also be kinda cool to have a microsoft counterpart to "the eye of judgemnent" but we know how well that worked out.

My name is blubeard because rosie has a blue beard. Just not on her chest.

How are they gonna have a shooter like HotD without any buttons/controller????

Not Punch-Out!! A boxing game for sure, but not one like Punch-Out!! Pretty much what Eyetoy and PSeye do, only better versions of it.

"Now, a fun game should always be easy to understand - you should be able to take one look at it and know what you have to do straight away. It should be so well constructed that you can tell at a glance what your goal is and, even if you don’t succeed, you’ll blame yourself rather than the game. Moreover, the people standing around watching the game have also got to be able to enjoy it." - Shiggy

@ hellonearth

you make your hand into the shape of the gun and you mimic recoil to shoot. or you poke toward the screen.

Crouch in every shooter should be ducking your head

Repent or be destroyed

I would have to disagree with you calling Ricochet dodgeball. Dodgeball entails dodging balls. A true game type of dodgeball would entail having to catch, dodge, and throw. All completely doable with Natal. Very easily online compatible with teams, etc.

I have also thrown about the idea of using the disc game from Tron. That would be badass as well.

Fighting games wold be fun.

A good use of the tech would be any game that detects the entire body, legs, arms, head, etc.

Some sort of on rails racing game where you have to jump hurdles and punch people beside you and such.

TBH if they really stick with the no controller angle then I see Natal limited from a gameplay perspective.

If you allow props then things open up a lot more, although that raises the question do you use stuff you have or buy stuff specially?

I see it working very well as an interface and it could be very sweet augmenting the normal controller - I do like the idea of leaning, etc. in FPS and similar titles.

It could also work well for adventure titles (in the old fashioned sense of something like Myst) as well I believe. I'd rather see 'Milo' move in that direction, where you explore, solve puzzles, etc.

Driving IMO would be stupid without props. Sitting holding an imaginary steering wheel is clearly inferior to holding an actual wheel so you'd be using Natal for the sake of it, not because it's actually better.

For me, that's the crux of it, even with Wii it's clear that motion control doesn't work for everything, and that's with a controller. Without a controller I believe the horizons narrow down a lot.

Of course they may have ideas for different approaches that will work. But I'm not using a forced motion control for the sake of it - if it works better then its an improvement, if not then its a gimmick.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

How about a TV show tie in, "So you think you can dance."

The game could track your body parts movment and rate it according to how the judges would score a dance compitition.
