I think the 40 GB sku will do very well; furthermore, I expect a 120 GB sku to eventually be introduced. I think Sony will continue to use different sized HD to add more value at the "same price" point. Meanwhile, they can continually change the ps3 to use whatever the standard, current laptop HD size is. A win, win situation. Consumers get more value, Sony can use a standard sized HD.

Well, I now only have access to a PS3 & 360...Plan on buying a wii soon (lol, if I can ever find one available!) but will probably wait until some of the major RPG's come out like Dragon Quest & Tales, etc.

Anyhow, I'm so far behind in games to play that I'm not in a huge hurry (lol, haven't even gotten a chance to finish God of War II yet!)

Well the 40Gb unit will have some success ,but many sales will come from the 60 Gb that comes with BC ,two games and two controllers for just 100 euros more .

As for the question ,an answer :Many people in this forums would be extremely sad .

Believe it or not, european ps3 owners didnt care about backwards compatibility. Accprding to SCEE. They had a poll and thousands voted. They said the best thing to take out for a cheaper ps3 was the memory card slots, then the BC. Still plays ps1 games, but who cares they suck any way.

I f it suceeds(by suceeding sales must stay at 80k + weekly in OTHERS alone)

Then it may be released in north america, and may increase sales by alot. A $399.99 PS3 will woop the $hit out of any 360 model. Sony's competition shouldnt be micro$oift alone. It should be nintendo.

SCEE also said that Europeans prefer bundles to price cuts...

I think it will do great......all Sony needs to do is get on devs asses to bring out games(I know they have a very select few IMO, man do I want warhawk :( )

Heres a problem I see. PS3 needs more games in general. People come into the store and see a full wall of 360 games and the lower price point (yes I know the 40 gig will be cheaper than the elite).....for a lot it makes sense to buy 360. Its like when GC and XBOX came out they only had a handful of titles and PS2 had a wall/case dominating their puny catalog. PS3 needs games.

Another problem I constantly rip on sony for is they NEED to advertise games. I had a friend who wanted (who now wants 360) a PS3. We were talking games and was like "I want a PS3, its way to expensive now." I told him it aint worth it now anyways caue there are no games out (this is around July). Hes like "Yeah.....the only game I know for it are Resistance and MLB the show." When he saw my 360 collection (6-7 games I think) he knew of all the titles I had and was psyched to be able to play the games that 360 advertised.

ADVERTISE SONY!

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

Another thing ....the PS4 will be also based on Cell arqquitechture (say for example a CPU composed of 4-5 Cell or Cell+ ) and the Nvidia contract for the GPU is for the foreseeable future so it will probably be fully BC with the PS3 ...and emulating the PS1 and PS2 (and maybe even the PSP then ) will be a childs game .

@ Diomedes1976

I agree, the 60gig is a better value. And I also agree about your answer to the question. Many people would be sad.

I'll take the case!!!

@dimedes

but if they won't have ANY physical media

why even make a disc dive n why not make it small n sleek

Well that could be a problem ,but for all the consoles not only the PS3 .I dont think we get there next generation .Download capacity increases but so do game size ....downloading games as MGSIV at its full 50GB (compressed ) to uncompress it in your hard drive .I dont see that viable .Plus ,people like and want to have their discs ,artworks ,cases and collections visibles ...the collectionism is an important thing in our hobby .

Even in that extreme case they could make the games donwloadable ....

lol at Soriku telling me people to use better "grammer" and spelling, and *shakes fist* at Soriku for trying to turn the topic into something other than a hypothetical positive topic for Sony.

Anyway, if the 40gb succeeds, which it might, Sony will sell more consoles. Chances are that the PS4 won't have much in the ways of b/w compatability, I think that Sony might turn it into a bit of a virtual console like on the Wii. People have to rebuy all the consoles, and possibly a special controller, it'd be win win for Sony.

But that's only if the PS4 doesn't have a physical media drive (which I believe it will) if it does, I dunno, I think it will work like the 80gb models work, software emulation - not top priority for Sony, just adding support for more games with each firmware upgrade.
