Forums - Nintendo - If EA released NHL10 on Wii...

I'm just wondering something and I want to hear what some of you have to say about this.  Now I know the Madden10 look is different from the HD consoles, but what would happen if a version of NHL10 was released and that same style was used in Madden10?  Would it help or hurt the game?

The game would bomb regardless, it wouldn't make a difference.

^ i agree, it wouldn't do as good.

do you people even look at sales before trashing your own dignity by declaring bomb every 5 minutes?

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

I'm not sure it would make any difference either way.

Look at EA's recent sports games on Wii: Tiger sells great in NA with realistic art, Grand Slam sells great in EU with stylized art, Sports Active sells great in both with realistic.

What's the common thread here? They're all quality projects with unique gameplay elements, and they sell best in regions where their sport is popular. Grand Slam seems to be performing the worst of the three, but it isn't losing to Virtua Tennis' realistic art.

As long as it looks decent, I don't think that sports gamers on the Wii care what style you use.

Okay, what sales should I be looking at that would make my argrument moot? Please share this info.

Here's what I'm looking at:

1. The horrific sales of NHL 2K9 Wii - I saw so many damn commercials for this game, and it was ONLY the Wii version. 20,000 sales? Horrific.

2. Team oriented sports games do better on HD consoles - the sales for NHL 09 on PS3/360 are still not very high.

What are YOU looking at?

If like GST or Tiger NHL 10 launched first, or alongside the PS360 versions, and included WM+ im sure it would be competitive.

To say that a hockey game wouldn't be as successful as a golf game is kinda naive.
