...is that the 08 model?
Zenfoldor grows nerd on yez bastards:
Plasma:
Phosphor trailing - Green phosphor ages slower than red or blue. As your plasma gets older, it will inevitably start to have this issue. Even the new Veria have this problem, and believe me, Veria is the best plasma you can afford.
Image Retention and Burnin - Despite the hoopla made by plasma defenders denying this is an issue, it most certainly still is when it comes to videogames. You simply shouldn't play them for the first 100 hours of life on your TV, and in that first 100 hours, if you don't thumbnail your set, you are just ASKING for phosphor trailing. Also...don't use a plasma as a computer monitor. You are just asking to ruin your set. Not all burnin can be fixed, even on a Veria.
Power usage - If you are already running an amp for speakers, it's kind of indulgent to have a plasma as well. Beware cap and trade.
LCD Conventional:
Clouding - When your screen isn't uniform. This is only noticable in a black room. There will be little bright splotches on your black TV. You sir, are a victim of a common mass market failure.
Flashlighting - When the four corners of your TV are brighter than the center. Even the best high end LCD's can suffer from this, and again, it's a mass market defect in most instances, and a very common one(especially with samsung).
Latency - While your latency on the Veria is nonexistant, expect a high end LCD amped to run you about 60-100ms in game mode.
Picture:
When discussing Plasma verses conventional LCD, you often run into the discussion of black levels. Assuming direct centerage, the high end LCDs will approach the high end plasmas, in 2009. They didn't last year, but they do now. The Plasmas are still better though. The drawbacks, especially for gaming, are significant. Phosphor trailing is atrocious and unacceptable.
However, with the new 240hz mode available on most high end conventional LCDs, the videophile will tell you that picture quality is arguable. The LCD doesn't have the pure black levels, but it does have the pop and "SOE" or Soap Opera Effect, apparent with the 240 mode, and basically, the images look 3D on a crystal clear display.
The "Best" 2009 TV for the price right now is easily the Samsung LN46B750. It is the first "High end videophile" model by Samsung, in their lineup, that doesn't sacrifice picture quality for thinness. It also runs the best 240hz mode avaiable in a current TV, and is, according to CNet, one of the best looking conventional LCDs ever made.:
Product summary
The good: Reproduces deep black levels; accurate color, commendable picture uniformity for an LCD; very good dejudder processing; extensive feature set with Yahoo Widgets, network streaming and built-in content; solid connectivity with four HDMI and one PC input.
The bad: Somewhat expensive; benefits of 240Hz difficult to discern; dark areas tinged bluer; shiny screen can cause reflections in bright rooms; no S-Video inputs.
The bottom line: The Samsung LNB750 series can't beat the picture quality of the best plasmas and LED-based LCDs, but for a conventional LCD, it's one of the best we've tested.

Keep in mind, this set is very recently released.
Now, CNet reviews are somewhat ignorant. They base the majority of their views on the TV before professional callibration(out of the box) because the majority of us aren't going to pay someone 300 dollars to set the color on our TV for us. However, they are a good indication. Keep in mind, reviews, even in things you don't know a lot about, are not technical or mathematical, and they are always opinion. Picture quality isn't relegated to one single factor, and instead it is addative. Basically, Plasma vs LCD vs LED isn't quantifiable, instead it is more apples or oranges.
Why is it the best TV then?
Well, it's a modern TV, from 2009, that matters, and easily OWNS any TV release in 2008, as a point of fact.
It is also on sale for a pitiful 1650 dollars, right now. That's down from about 2400.
You are virtually guarnteed a uniform screen with no flashlighting or clouding, as these are all handtested by Samsung, and backed up with screen replacements and white glove delivery.
Sony vastly overcharges for their high end sets. That is just about a fact.
That said, everyone has a right to their opinion...but no 08 set matches the new high end Sammy conventional....they just don't. This was a groundbreaking year. 240hz is the future, and Sammy is ahead of the game when it comes to conventional LCDs.
The LNB750 series is a millennium TV. It's the best conventional you'll find. That's not just me talking. Go check out some user reviews, or just go read http://www.avforums.com/. That's where I go to learn about such things, and compare mighty electronics. If you don't know that site, you probably don't know what you're talking about when it comes to modern electronics, lol. Seriously.
I don't need your console war.
