God of War 3 -> Rip their head off.

Gears of War 2 -> Cut them into pieces.

Since Gears is probably > God of War, its Sony who needs a better answer.

lol, well, GeoW and GoW are two completely different genres.

As far as that goes, going by the ideology of this thread(which I don't prescribe to), Sony has absolutely no answer for Gears of War unless you call it Uncharted, and if you did...then yes, judging by sales and reviews, Sony needs a much better answer than that. Same could be said for Killzone 2 and Halo 3 though.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

I disagree. Lower sales most likely mean that there's simply less people want a TPS on the PS3. Other reasons may include a game's poor quality, bad marketing, or stiff inner competition (e.g. MAG released near MW2). I don't think Uncharted suffered from poor quality, bad marketing, or stiff inner competition (at a time when the PS3 had a very small portfolio of titles).

The only thing Sony needs to do in providing an answer is giving people an option. By releasing a major game for each genre, Sony satisfies fans of each respective genre and don't leave them hanging. Lacking an answer to a genre alientates those people and make them go to the console that is dominant in that genre (e.g. JRPGs on the 360).

Sony has released Uncharted, and soon Uncharted 2, giving TPS fans an excelent game to enjoy.

You're comparing a TPS to a Hack and Slash?...

I understand that you're talking about the level of gore and violence, but ultimately it's the fun gameplay of GeoW and GoW that draws the fans in, not just gore for the hell of it.

The gore and violence are accesories that enhance the story of GoW, which itself enhances the core gameplay of GoW.

If you're talking about GeoW having more sales than GoW, I don't know what to say. Having more sales doesn't mean one game is better or inferior. Once GoW comes out, PS3 owners have the OPTION of getting what Xbox owners get with GeoW (which I just said, is ridiculous in the first place, because GoW doesn't provide what GeoW, a 3'rd person shooter, offers). Lower sales only mean that there's less people on the PS3 who wanted what GeoW had, and the people who wanted it had the option to buy the game and were satisfied when they did so.

Its simple, they do not need to answer such a small time series from Sony. If God of War 3 sells like 4M+ then perhaps they might feel a need, but at present its not much of a risk to simply ignore it from a business perspective. They felt like they needed an answer to MGS4, and hence the reason why Splinter Cell Conviction being released. They felt the need to answer Gran Turismo and hence the reason why Forza 3 is being released. They don't have a reason to answer God Of War 3 and quite frankly the multiplatform efforts in that genre are good enough without having to get involved.

Tease.

Yes they each have there own genre or franchise that are quite the same, but MS is lacking an offroad racer exclusive ala Motor Storm, aswell as Platformers Ala Little big Planet.

Even still, NG was MS's answer to god of war, but ever since that idiot left so did NG's exclusiveness to the xbox 360, and now its on PS3 except better.

Futhermore, as far as 1st party games go, MS is much farther behind Sony.

In the end it doesn't even matter because all 3 OF the big 3 will have one of eveything... more then the likely...

Well, I disagree with the thread as a whole, but I certainly think that the game didn't suffer poor quality.

However, this thread is about having "answers" for certain games.

That means you compare them.

Uncharted certainly had worse quality, and marketing than Gears of War(Uncharted had some flaws, you have to admit), and assuming Gears was the competition we speak of, it was and is certainly stiff...to say the least.

While the game was great, it is no competition for Gears of War, and certainly not a valid answer in the sense that the TC is speaking.

I never mentioned if MS needs to offer a answer to GoW, only disagreeing with your notion that GeoW is an answer to GoW and that GeoW is superior to GoW.

I do think that MS doesn't need an answer to the Hack and Slash genre like you said. It's not a very popular genre anymore, and 2 big multiplatform games, Bayonetta and Dante's Inferona are coming out in close proximity to GoW.

I don't know if Microsoft would be good at making this type of games. Microsoft "grew up" making shooting games with the original Xbox while Sony "grew up" making RPG's, platformers, etc. to combat Nintendo's library during the N64 and PS1 era.

Yes, but realistically, the library is what matters, not the generic lable "first party." In the end, it is much more important to concentrate on 3rd party support, than to invest in your first party, for library quality at least. See Wii, and games like GTA and FFXIII, and every other game that is now on Xbox 360.

The Wii has a good library, don't get me wrong, but it could benefit from more 3rd party support, I think we'll all agree.

I don't think the platform companies should really try to make a game to match another game, but simply satisfy a genre. I don't think Uncharted, from what I know and read from (I haven't played the game yet =/) was meant as an answer to GeoW. In terms of gameplay (Platforming, and some light stealth mechanics), aesthetics, story, and dialogue, the two are very different. Uncharted only serves to satisfy TPS fans on a PS3 who want... TPSs.

Even if Uncharted had worse quality and marketing, since PS3 exclusive owners can't get GeoW, if they wanted a TPS then they would have turned to Uncharted. That's the whole point of making sure you "matching" a game, it's to fill in a genre. Uncharted and GeoW can't compete against each other, because they're on different systems.

The only competition the two games have are between Multiplatform owners and non-HD console owners who want to choose a console. There aren't many multi platform owners, and those who haven't gotten an current gen console yet are most likely non-hard core fans that don't really do a lot of research when searching for a console anyway.
