I agree with this.

Twilight Princess' overworld was fine. There was always mini-games and other stuff to do (not to mention electric bugs and heart pieces to look for!)
Kakariko village had a lot to do too, it wasn't just Castle Town.

Oh it's your blog? Then I apologise for my behaviour. I'm not disagreeing with you, your main point is spot on It's just that I however find the fact that your commenting on a flaw that has been criticized since the games release to be somewhat pointless. I also think that the franchise needs to evolve and move away from the formula that OoT created however I have always felt that a blog is the wrong place to make points on the series' future. Many times I have seen such blog entries which also make statments on flaws of previous games and then proceed to list possible suggestions for future games so that they may improve on them. There is nothing wrong with this in and of it'self, however the problem I have with this approach is that because the franchise is so special to people and each player has different things which they find appealing about the series, it neglects others opinions and often comes across as little more than 'Nintendo should do THIS, and if they can't do THIS then they have failed'. Granted your blog is noway near the levels of biggotry you will find on other blogs, however with a title like 'What's Wrong with The Legend of Zelda?' it just seems like a very one-sided artical which disregards the fandom as a whole. I would be more than willing to discuss the flaws of the franchise, possible means to correct them and the further evolution of the series, but as I said it should be a discussion, not a one-way series of statments drawn from a single person's own opinions. |
i think you'll find that a lot of people are discussing here... but obviously in order to have a discussion someone needs to start it all off.. which is what the OP has done. he hasn't said "this is right and anyone who says otherwise is wrong".
"pointless"-? in what way? and if a thread like this (who said it wa a blog?) isnt the right place to talk about a video game, on a video game website, then where is the "right" place?
cheer up eh, stop acting so superior.
edit: i totally forgot to put my own view.. i agree that hyrule field is a bit big and empty. i mean, its a nice field to just go for a run with epona and practice and stuff... and i guess the fact that its empy is kinda realistic.... but it would be nice if things were shaken up ever so slightly.
I agree, but i think the solution needs to be looked at differently. What made the WindWaker's overworld work was the fact that it wasn't really an overworld, every area was surrounded by more area, except that every area was an island occupying only a tiny portion of the map. They need to take that idea, but eliminate the concept of islands and the grid shape.
The idea being: make everything contiguous. Nowhere should be a designated "overworld" that seamlessly links to all the other regions of the games. Every area links to other areas, but there is no central location, just moving around.
Imagine if you took TP's overworld, but instead of the different sections of one big field, divided it up and made three or four whole new areas to sit on the same space, occupying the same area, and then closed off navigation between one or two of them.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
It's nice going somewhere wide open and not having anyone there. That's why Link left New York.
Ask stefl1504 for a sig, even if you don't need one.

First of all the link of the articals origin is: 'taiga-viejodani.blogspot.com' Secondly you misinterpreted. I have NO issue with discussions of this nature taking place on forums, ney it's a good process through which thoughts and ideas can be exchanged. I simply find however, that a discussion starter that comes from a blog is inherrently flawed as a blog is a one-way means of communication which doesn't rely on additional input from other users.

i was genuinely asking who said it was a blog.
and maybe i misinterpreted, or maybe not.
but even if it DID come from a blog its here now to be discussed? :)
