i didn't give them permission to carry on taking money, and i have letter from them asking me to please re-consider

Do you have any papers or documentation regarding your exchanges with the NSPCC?

The only thing I got paper wise with the Nspcc is a banks statement where they took the money out, and my letter to reconsider donating again, so its best to take it up with them rather than the bank? when told the bank I'd canceled it with them all she said was " i know sweetheart but you have to cancel it this end as well otherwise they will still try to take it" so I guess maybe it is partly my fault, but i think its still getting out of hand, I don't even know what the bank is charging me for anymore I've had so many now

Well in that case the only piece of advice I can give you is to write a letter to the NSPCC containing what you divulged here, only phrased better and with more detail. Also make sure to make it as long as possible (I'm talking 5 pages at least), this tends to make companies take you seriously and and if you get lucky sometimes scares them off totally. Outside of that there's very little I can do for you as it's not an area of I've had experience in.

Thanks for your help dude , I will take it up with the charity rather than the bank

I don't know how it works in the UK, but if you have some proof that you wanted to cancel your donations (called and they claim that the call is recorded or sent a letter), then you should be able to threaten to take them to small claims court unless they pay back everything they took plus the overdraft charges. That would be fairly effective, especially if you tell them you have proof to back you up. It would be cheaper for them to just pay, then to send someone to court and pay.

If you have no proof that you tried to cancel, then you are probably screwed, but I would write a letter asking them to cancel all further withdraws from now on. Also, considering the circumstances, I'd get someone to witness you delivering the letter so you have backup if it comes to taking them to small claims court.

Oh, and I'm all for helping a charity out, but if it causes you to waste money on overdraft charges, I'd want everything back and give it all to someone else.

oh, and I'll throw this out there too. In the US, they have this service for overdraft protection. At HSBC it costs nothing, and it essentially turns your debit account into a credit account if you overdraw. But if you pay it off right away it only costs like $1-2 instead of $35. I'd call around and see if anyone offers it and switch to them considering you don't keep much money in your account.

banks in the uk suck, we have some of the highest charges in the world. You should get yourself a new bank, or even better a building society. Like Nationwide. Nationwide are awesome. Nationwide are the gods of the financial world.

Quite right. I'm with Nationwide and they've never fucked me around in the 10 years+ I've used them.
