There is some truth is your message -- but not necessarily your tone.
You are ignoring the fact that everything is based upon estimation. NPD, GfK, Famistu, etc., are all making estimates based upon available data. And unless you really beleive that the Xbox outsold the DS/DSi in the UK in the first half of 2009, then there is evidence that the for-payment tracking firms also change their numbers.
Publishers can only tell you how many of an item are shipped (physically) or sold (electronically). They cannot give you total sales because they don't know how many copies are in route and on store shelves.
That all being said, the previous answers have given a plausible explanation for the VGC numbers.
Also, your comments -- and those made by others about the numbers -- makes me wonder why some people come to this site.
