Forums - Sales - Will we start to see an increase in the price of games?

Just stick with todays budgets and the $60 price tag.

i dont even understand why this gen had a price hike. last gen games were 49.99 but once xbox 360 came out they set the price of HD games at 59.99.... what doesn't make sense to me is that xbox 360 and ps2 games both use dvds, so why the hike? ps3 uses blu ray which in essence justifies the hike to SOME degree since a bluray is obviously more expensive than a dvd. i see most of you saying dev costs are to blame, but isn;t it rather easy to make games for xbox since its just like a pc? so i dont understand the price hike for this gen, its rather lame.

It is because of the graphical leap that 360/PS3 games have made.  Those beautiful graphics need more people working on them for a longer time than in previous generations.  More developers are also trying to do things like destructible environments, and realistic physics.  Those things also take time and people.  Paying more people for extra time makes the games more expensive.

N64 games used to be anywhere from $60-$100.
There are other older consoles that had even more expensive games.

Aussie games can cost as high as 120 if you're getting a special edition version.

Welcome to out world.

Damn, a price increase would be a horrible idea right now.

Yea I remember N64 games being higher then ps1 I think. Majoras Mask was around 100$ I think since it needed the add on. (but the cartridge was gold!)

I think you're talking about special edition games.

MW2 is the first $59 PC game I've seen this gen. I hope they don't get any more expensive than that.

this is one of the good things about having 3 companies around. no one can really raise the prices drastically
