All over now, congrats to the deserved win by Spain.

They're showing that minimalism wins games in Football, kinda like Greece did in 2004.

Please don't mention Greece in the same breath as Spain.

I never said that Greece has the same quality as Spain, since Spain's quality is completely outstanding.

What I meant was that the minimalistic approach (a.k.a - one goal victory and then full defense with midfield control to disrupt any strategy from the opposing team) is very similar.

But many teams play with a one goal lead strategy. Nearly all teams try to shut down and disrupt if they lead by 1-0 in the second half.

Spanish football is art, Greece are butchers.

Well, in this WC, especially on the elimination rounds, Spain has actually been the only one using that strategy. Granted, they had easy chances to do 2-0 or 3-0, but most of their game after the goal was zone-position defending with an 8-men line, Xavi midfield control and excellent pass forward trying to get the lone german defender out of pace.

This was brilliantly done, though, but it's still minimalistic. It doesn't take from their brilliant victory today, since they dominated throughout most of the 90 minutes.

I get what u mean now. The means to reach that lead is totally different, but they both are aiming only at getting that odd goal lead and then to completely shut down the opponent which they're both good at (in Greece' case, were good at).

Italy has pretty much had the same stategy as long as I've watched football on TV (since WC 1990). Very minimalistic (and boring) approach.

Portugal was to blame in that game though. We had a lot of chances to score in the first half and we didn't take them. Greece had already shown what would happen when a team does that.

I thought that Scolari and his pupils had learned from the initial defeat in the opening game, but they did the same mistakes in the final.

Did Portugal meet Greece in the group play? First game of the cup? I remember that vaguely.

I'm hoping for a Holland victory. Most of their players are based in the Premiership and I can't imagine it would do the Premiership much good if it's rival (LaLiga) wins..

Hopefully, King Kuyt can make the difference.

Yup, Italy are probably the "creators" of that style of football, perfected in the approach that is "Catenaccio". What Spain is doing in this wc is different though, they meld their offensive ability with a high pressure zonal defense, getting insanely fast counter-attacks with it (like the one that Pedro missed).

Netherlands vs Spain is going to be a tactically interesting match, since both teams relish ball possesion, midfield control and fast, incisive attacks down the wings. Sneider/Robben vs Xabi/Iniesta, Kuyt/Huntelaar vs Villa (yes I think Villa plays for two in Spain's offensive field )

Yup, our group was Portugal, Greece, Spain and Russia. We lost against Greece and beat Russia and Spain, Greece beat us, a draw against Spain and lost against Russia.

Why? Apart from the robbed victory from England of course.

Spain is highly entertaining since they're so accurate, skilled and good at what they do.

Holland is always Holland. Power and fun.

It will be a fantastic final. At least very exciting beforehand.
