I don't think I'll ever play an RPG on a handheld (I pretty much don't play handhelds at all) so this is bad news for me.

Really?  Crisis Core is such a good introduction to the handheld rpg world.

It wasn't anything special for me, my greatest hand-held RPG expirience is Disgaea, so I'm eagerly awaiting the second installment localisation along with VC. There is also a Sega space opera game on the horizon for the DS that might finally force me to buy one. Sega is on fire this gen, disregarding their sonic and casual friendly game (not dishing them, I simply don't care) I've been critically pleased by just about everything they've had their hands on! VC2, Trice-Ace project, Bayonetta!!! God they just don't stop making me happy :)

The whole handheld thing really only works for some gamers in certain situations.

If you were say a train commuter, they make a ton of sense. If you are always a passenger in a car rather than the driver, again; why not. But there are still quite a few gamers that would rather be playing on a big screen. The whole novelty and convenience of being able to play on the go just isn't what they prefer.

As for VC2, the fact that they're even making an attempt to make it a continued franchise rather than a one shot project is good news, even if it's not on the platform of your choice.

Turn around development time should be shorter for the PSP as well, and this is not to say that we won't be seeing another VC game on the PS3 or other console if consumer interest remains positive enough.

So sure, a PSP game for those who don't own one yet loved VC may cause complaints; you can either buy one or go without. You can't play all the MGS games (including Peace Walker) without a PSP either.

I have always hated handhelds for some reason, I tried one that I almost liked when I was a kid, an Atari Lynx. Its an inferior experience to me and I liken it to playing games on a mobile phone (which I never do either).

I'm just not that fond of playing on a handheld for hours at a time. Any game that needs my undivided attention for that long may as well be on a PC or console. About the only portable games I've been able to log dozens of hours on is the Advance Wars series which worked well in small or large doses at a time.

If it weren't for the fact that the PSP does have quite a few games exclusive to the console, I'd have no interest whatsoever in owning one. But add VC2 to the list. But frankly, I'd rather be playing them through emulation on the PS3 if it were possible.

I'd prefer it on PS3, for sure. But I have a PSP, and looking at PSP in Japan, and how well titles can sell there, I can understand the shift.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

According to vgc:
ps3 rpg software unit sales outside japan: 3,12 M
psp rpg software unit sales outside japan: 6,54 M

ps3 rpg software unit sales in japan: 1,20 M
psp rpg software unit sales in japan: 11,68 M

So, for every ps3 rpg game sold OUTSIDE japan, 2 psp rpg games are sold.
And for every ps3 rpg game sold IN japan, 10 psp rpg games are sold.

These numbers give you a clear idea of where rpg fans reside.

If you add these:
-jrpg (or s-jrpg if you like) are not selling really well in hd consoles
-jrpg are selling well in ds/psp
-psp is a great machine to play for many consumers
-there are lots of ps3/psp owners
-vc2 will probably be a spin-off of vc1 (a port with new missions and slight new plot but no real new mechanics and/or features).
-Production cost of vc2 will be much lower than that of vc.

If vc2 delivers i think the most probable effect will be the broadening of it's audience, reinforcing possibilities of a true sequel on ps3.

So, in my opinion VC2 for PSP can be very good for PS3 or for hd consoles in general if becoming multi.

Now everybody go buy this little beauty!!!

I'm glad it's coming to PSP since I already wanted a PSP for a while now. And VC would be awesome on the train or plane or on vacation I can't lug my PS3 and 52 inch everywhere.

And it certainly doesn't mean that more iterations can come out later for PS3 after the install base is bigger and it gets even more respectable sales.

How can PS3 have big jrpg sales in Japan when there was 1 semi big title released for it ?

I think if you do this chart in january after FFXIII, Word of Eternity, ToV are released numbers will be much diffrent.

PROUD MEMBER OF THE PSP RPG FAN CLUB

Im very disappointed about the move, considering im without any doubt a home console gamer. Handhelds really dont appeal to me.

But regardless it doesnt necessarily mean anything negative for the PS3's future.
