Forums - PC - Is it possible that COD4 sold/will sell 10 millions (or near it) on PC?

You're absolutely right. Sometimes i don't know how to phrase the best words in English, so i'm sorry ;). What I meant to say was that the only platform where you could find the best FPS at that time was on the PC and that it was the most used gaming medium for FPS ;)

Aw, now I feel like a jack ass. One of the few times I get nitpicky and it turns out to be a translational error. Lol!

@Vertigo-X

It's ok ;) Sometimes I don't know how to express myself properly, so pointing it out actually helps me, so next time I can properly convey what I want to say to avoid these kind of confusions ;)

Current PC Build

CPU - i7 8700K 3.7 GHz (4.7 GHz turbo) 6 cores OC'd to 5.2 GHz with Watercooling (Hydro Series H110i) | MB - Gigabyte Z370 HD3P ATX | Gigabyte GTX 1080ti Gaming OC BLACK 11G (1657 MHz Boost Core / 11010 MHz Memory) | RAM - Corsair DIMM 32GB DDR4, 2400 MHz | PSU - Corsair CX650M (80+ Bronze) 650W | Audio - Asus Essence STX II 7.1 | Monitor - Samsung U28E590D 4K UHD, Freesync, 1 ms, 60 Hz, 28"

LOL, no.

Very unlikely and even if it were true it can't be proven so its pointless to speculate as we'll most likely never get access to the dd sales.

lol with PC getting such amazing sales and having such amazing legs, I wonder why developers aren't supporting it.. hmmm... perhaps your logic is flawed my friend.

BTW, jagged gave you a couple of links in a previous thread that disproved your little theory here. DD as a cheap distribution model is great, but i don't think it acounts for as much sales as you think it does. Just because you download a lot of stuff doesn't mean the rest of thw world has your same mentality.

Also, Cod4 doesn't have the asian appeal of games like wow and starcraft and that is why it won't have the legs. However, on the consoles, I know it is pretty consistently in the top 20 in npd numbers even to this day. So we know it has legs on the consoles:)

No it did not. Not at all. Not even close.

As I said several times: Activision stated they made 90 million USD revenue on the PC without the MMOs in 08.

So Starcraft, CoD WaW, CoD4, Warcraft 3 + several others created a revenue of 90 million combined. This is not enough revenue for one of those games selling millions of millions like you claimed. This includes ever country and every way of distribution.

And the data that Digital Distribution created a 2 billion USD revenue is mostly because of MMOs. This includes the fees for WoW and all the other MMOs out there, plus every game on steam etc.

And Activision Blizzard would have made a statement that CoD4 sold 10 million on PC alone, that is for sure. Would be perfect for PR.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

While it will get to 10 Milions copies sooner or later i think it's way too early especially when you consider those Activision assholes are still selling it at nearly debug prices.

Nice, assumptions based off assumptions that are based off assumptions. Excellent way to prove something.

Is it that fartetched? From the 7 millions figure, 4.8 of those were for the PS360, according to VGChartz and a bit of estimation. Even if we include 200k from the PS360 copies that are on shelves, it would still leave a couple of millions for the PC version.

Now, A Best-selling PC game sells 2 millions in a few select countries in less than 2 months. While eastern european countries, scandinavian countries, Russia, South Korea, etc.. aren't as big as UK or USA, they are still alot, and their markets are entirely dominated by PC. Didn't you know that the Stalker game sold like 1 million in the easter european countries alone??!! But you are also forgetting the biggest market, which was bigger than 2/3 the size of the Retail market at the time: Digital Distribution - COD4 stayed for months as the top seller on Steam and D2D, and even now it still shows up in the top sellers list on Steam and Impulse.

Why don't you compare COD4 with, let's say Starcraft? It took 9 months for SC1 to sell 1.5 millions, while COD4 sold more in less than a fifth of the time.

Or better yet, compare it to Sims 2, which is probably close to 20 millions sold by now. COD4 was selling better than WoW and Sims 2 in the first few months, then sold at the same pace on retail, but unlike those two, COD4 was also selling on Digital Distribution (and kicking ass there).

I hear people say COD4 could've only sold 2-3 millions on PC. Then I ask this: Then how did Stalker, a game that NEVER appeared in a european retail and a couple times on digital PC charts sell over 2 millions? How did The Witcher, which NEVER appeared in ANY retail chart, and once or twice on digital charts sell over 1 million? Those games were nowhere near what COD4 did. Infact, not even WoW and Sims 2 were on the same level as COD4 in it's first year.

You don't need the asian market to have legs...

yes, it certainly would've gone much faster to 10 millions if they just do a price cut, but that didn't happen. But I expect a price cut before Modern Warfare 2 comes out.

that makes no sense.
