While true, I'm being to wonder if The Pacthman was onto something when he siad that Natal isn't nessarily a gaming interface, but a navigation interface... |
I think it was obvious that it was going to be used as a navigation interface amongst other things and that was one reason why I think most people missed its significance. Patcher has underestimated its other functions if he thinks it will become largely navigation interface mainly because it supports much more.
We are only scratching the surface and I think we will be suprised by how resourceful the development houses will be once they get to grips with it. It has the potential to exceed anything currently in the motion world and so it is probably unfair to compare it to the wiimote although the wiimote should be praised for showing the world that motion control technology was more than just a gimick.

Or heaven forbid wait and find out what the actual limitations are before moving house.

SO many people have underestimated the impact of what this technology can make on computing. We are taking rudimentary computerized human-machine interface. Like the terminals in Mass Effect.

Although I do believe that there are incredible avenues for creativity with Natal, motion controls in general, so far only a handful of developers/games have shown the ability to expand the controls and experiences. OR the desire to want too, I just find it hard to believe that NOW we have motion controls with XB360 & Sony that all of a sudden developers will "GET" motion controls...

People flailing around in front of PC confirmed.
Don't scratch your head, you'll format your hard drive.
Does Natal even work if you're sat 6 inches away from it?
I can think of one advantage. When the wife finds your porn collection just blame it on Milo.
Nov 2016 - NES outsells PS1 (JP)
Don't Play Stationary 4 ever. Switch!
They would have to be insane to keep it limited to just the Xbox360.

I would not focus everything onto motion the Natal system is more than motion. It is this combination of capabilities which will lead to innovation. Expect to see systems only use a portion of the capabilities and others to explore every capability to the limit. Also with it not being limited to just the 360 more people will be involved which can only be a good thing.

...I agree with your vision, it's the same one that Bill Gates shares. The tech can be expansive, in the same vein that people use the Wii remote...but we're talking video gaming here.
We've had games do voice rec, we now have a RTS coming that works with MS's table tech, things that I think can be done with Natal as well. So I see the applications.
But what I don't see yet is any PC developers, which has driven the XB360's library, make as attempt at motion controls. Right now Bethesha is the first one off the stop of my head that is willing to dip their toes in motion controls, I'm interested to see the results.
