I decided to create this thread and talk about Condemned: Criminal Origins after beating it for the second time last week.
I beat it almost 3 years ago for the first time and loved it but couldn't help and think that Gears of War, Resident Evil 5, the Darkness, Silent Hill and other upcoming action/adventure/horror games will be better.
Well guess what? Here we are 3 years later and all of those games were great...but not as great as Condemned, which is the best (and possibly only) true survival horror game this gen and one of the best launch games for any system.
Why is it a masterpiece you ask?
1. Believable story/characters/dialogue/setting - so rare in todays games.
2. Original concept - Game has been on the market for 3.5 years and there is nothing like it available in any other game. Other than the inferior sequel, no one has even tried to deliver visceral combat seen in this game.
3. Scary as hell - combination of amazing atmosphere, movement controls which are somewhat clunky (on purpose), limited run ability and extremely limited ammo makes this game the only pretend survival horror game this gen that is actually scary. Capcom, are you listening?!?
4. Doesn't stick to genre cliché’s - it’s not a FPS yet you have a gun and walk in first person view. It’s a survival horror game, yet you the game has more action than most action games. And despite all the action, there is time for forensic aspects and puzzles. And the end has a dash of morality system... It’s a hybrid hence you really can't classify the game to one genre.
It’s a game where sum of the parts added up equals something far greater than the individual parts alone.
Anyhow, I believe Condemned should be viewed as an hd sleeper classic game along side Dead rising, Crackdown, Valkyria Chronicles and other original HD games that possibly did not get the attention they deserved.
Anyone else thought this game was amazing?
