Good list. I disagree with the order a little but I agree with this list a lot more than most of the others that I've seen. Nancy Drew shouldn't be on there, but besides for that it's pretty good.

Master Chief should not be on there guys. It's most influencial character. Master Chief doesn't have one hundredth of the personality that Duke Nukem did. This is why Duke is on the list and not him.

Number one is a little bit of a surprise but I can't disagree with it. Without Pac-man, the increase in the popularity of gaming wouldn't have happened, and Mario might not even exist. *gasp* Too bad Pac-man's getting tanked at the bar with Spyro, Crash, and Alex Kidd right now. :(

I have been a huge Halo fan since day one back in 2001 and I have to agree with you about Master Chief not being on the list. This video is about influential characters not games. If it was influential games, sure Halo: Combat Evolved should be up there because it revolutionized the console FPS.

It was the first console FPS to truly work wonders on a joypad and the first to introduce brilliant third person vehicle combat and co-op gamplay. It even had a great story/game universe to boot.

Every console FPS since Halo CE has taken something from it in one way or the other and implemented it into their own game. Whether it be regenerating health, split screen co-op etc etc...

The Halo games are bigger than Master Chief. There are lots of other characters that play a vital role and get screen time.

I'm going to have to take issue with a couple of points.

The first console FPS that was huge and showed that it would work well was GoldenEye 007 on the N64.  Perfect Dark, also on the N64, had both campaign split-screen cooperative, and campaign split screen counter-operative modes.  Those games were both mainstream.

Some questionable choices, but ultimately he does an excellent job of defending his choices.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Remove Nancy Drew and list is fine.

And in order to give some credit to Microsoft, I think we may give Master chief a shot.

(See what I just did there?)

I always liked that MC wasn't over the top as a character. Its quite refreshing. I think they made him that way to immerse the players so they thought they were him, kinda like gordon freeman just to a lesser extent.

how exactly is Crash a copy of Sonic? If Crash is a copy of Sonic, than Sonic is a copy of Mario

Well, Mario was of course the first platformer-king. The Nintendo-mascot. A general good guy with not much discernable traits. Then Sega entered the market branding there new mascot, Sonic. Indeed, the platforming had been modeled after Mario but sega decided to give him a personality, an over the top cool attitude like the neighbourhood cool kid on sugar. This made Sonic instant-popular to all the people who desired some more personality in their characters.

Crash did basicly the same. I'll not go into depth on crash's trademarked personalities, just watch this ad:

But... good old sonic > Crash.

And I don't really think Crash is more popular than Sonic.

And of course, is not more influential than Sonic

But good old Crash>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Sonic. (sales and reviews anyone?)

Hell, Sonic  got ruined after his 3 games, while Bandicoot continiued to live until Crash Tag Team Racing ( NOT Crash Team Racing on PS1) showed up

Which part of "most influential game characters" didn't you understand?

There are more computers with Windows Vista out there than Apple could ever dream of with the Apple Lisa... which one was more influential? Right, Apple Lisa because it was one of the first computers to feature a graphical user interface which is now common in 99.9% of all PC's.

This list doesn't deal with sales or reviews, neither with opinion. Crash can't be a more influential character "to you" because the question is "which character influenced the industry?" so our opinions don't matter. And Sonic clearly had a bigger impact on the future of the industry than Crash.

that list makes so much sense. wow. pac-man = shock win.

except, of course, the whole Nancy Drew thing. i know the guy who made the video gave reasons for it but I've never even heard of those games... and girl gamers have been around as long as guy gamers. and Tomb Raider came out 2 years before the first ND game.. that's a 2-year head start for Lara Croft to get girls into it. although why anyone thinks girls need an invitation into gaming is beyond me

Pretty good list in my opinion, but Nancy Drew, WTF?
I would also switch the first and second place.
