Forums - Gaming - Top 5 - Best Game Engines

No source or Cryengine means this list is fail.

Crysis was released in 2007 and even now has only been topped by Crysis Warehead, which shows how ahead of the curve the engine really was

Cri-Engine 3 is the best engine. Crisis was a resource hog, but now with the console adapted engine it proves it can run by far the greatest looking grafix on this gen console hardware.

1. Cry-Engine 3
2. Remedy in-house engine (Alan Wake)
3. Anvil (Assassin's Creed II)
4. id's Tech 5 (Rage)
5. Chrome Engine (Call of Juarez, Dead Island)

Honorable mention:

Gamebryo (Oblivion and Fallout 3, yeah!!)

lol... Killzone 2 engine.

The game cant even do split screen...

I love the physics of Naughty Dog's Engine...especially the movement of Drake in Uncharted 2.

Uncharted 2 will look better then Crysis.

For once you are correct...

If Crysis is played at 800x600 resolution with minimum visual setting, Uncharted 2 will look better.

Of the ones in the top five I like the Unreal Engine the most because it is used on something else besides FPS.

LOL unreal engine? get real dude! and crytek engine shud be there dunno what chrome engine is.....

Ight, let's get this straight. For those saying source engine should be there..get glasses. Source Engine is good but looks nowhere as good as those engines mentioned.

Why would cry engine 3 be there if we haven't seen any gameplay videos of crysis 2 on consoles?(And there's pop in issues) That's messed up.

Yes Cry Engine 2 should be there, it's definitely the best looking game engine that has good physics, motion blur, awesome textures, resolution, shadowing effects, WATER effects, Post processing quality...etc.

So let's see:

5. Unreal Engine
4. Chrome Engine
3. Killzone 2's engine
2. Naughty Dog's Engine
1. CryEngine 2.

P.S NO gamebryo engine because it has a lot of glitches and pop in issues.

I'd put (FPS, TPS titles are per post)

1) Crytek (I'm actually not sure its optimized as well as it could be, it's a hog but there's no denying what it can deliver when enough horsepower is put behind it)

2) Naughty Dog engine (my favorite console engine this gen. I love its capabilities and the way it more or less removes concept of levels delivering a seamless flow (apart from one or two big scene jumps) from one area to the next.

3) Killzone 2 engine (very impressive engine, the Crytek engine of consoles I guess.)

4) Source engine (actually my favorite in many ways but not quite as shiny now)

5) Unreal engine (a great engine, powering a lot of fantastic titles plus a favorite of mine since Unreal Tournament)

I'm very interested in ID Tech 5 and the engine underneath Alan Wake and Heavy Rain, but until they're released I don't think you can count them.

Gamebyro is also a good, robust engine and I liked it very much in Oblivion and Fallout 3. The Chrome engine is pretty good but still seems a little flaky here and there IMHO.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
