Forums - Nintendo - Will Dragon Quest X(Wii) beat Dragon Quest IX(DS) in sales?

Dragon Quest is a huge series probably bigger than the Final Fantasy series in Japan.  Now Dragon Quest IX just release in Japan and will probably sell like 3 million copies 1st day/week and 15 million LTD. But since the DS has a huge underbase in Japan and probably is like 1 DS per person  instead of 1 console per household like Wii. The Wii in Japan is really popular too and I think it will be bundled with a colored Wii just like Monster Hunter 3. So do you think DQX will sell more than DQIX?

Yes im sure it will.

it will maybe because it will be a bigger game overall, with detailed 3d and all the musical score and capacity of wii discs etc, so i think more people is eager to play that.It will be somewhat more epic i guess(not nessarily better).

15m ltd? You mean 5m? Dragon Quest is extremely front loaded and most of the sales will be in the first two weeks. So I doubt it will sell 5 times more than it has lifetime. Also I'm afraid the wii hasn't defined itself as the console for Dragon Quest like the DS has. The ds has three remakes, and 2 spinoffs(If there is more that I don't remember please correct me) to back it up. The Wii has one spinoff which is seen as lower quality than all the DQ DS games. Also seeing as we haven't seen anything of DQX it is hard to tell right now. Basically we need more time to determine this, but as of now I doubt it.

i doubt it. The DS is insanely popular, and has almost 4 times the wii userbase in japan.

I don't think so haha. This is the DS title we are talking about haha. I'm sure DQX will be collosal when it releases on the Wii but DQIX on the DS has been bigger than anything else in Japan thus far. Would be really tough to beat.

However DQX on the Wii may be a bigger hardware pusher considering I doubt much of the extended DQ fanbase has bought a wii yet.

If MH3 outsells the PSP ones, then yes.

So, in other words, not likely.

That is a poor comparison. Many say that Monster Hunter is succeful today because it is on a Handheld and was never popular on consoles. Dragon Quest on the other hand was always on consoles(main series wise) and found success on them. So if Monster Hunter 3 sells less, then we should assume it is because of the previous mentioned reason. That and we are comparing the Wii and PSP in one, and the Wii and DS in another. If Dragon Quest sells less then it isn't as easy to pinpoint the sources as of now as it is for Monster Hunter 3. Also if Dragon Quest X releases toward the end of this generation, meaning 2011 or later then I could very well see it outselling the DS game. Either way the difference won't be anywhere near the difference between Monster Hunter 3 is to the PSP games. Having said that, I doubt from the perspective that I have this early before DQ X will be released that it will outsell IX.

Edit: sry for double post

@ jefforange89
But DQ is already established on consoles, actually this is the first handheld iteration... so DQX shouldn't be affected, i even think they can afford DQX soon enough since it will be a totally different game than the DS one
