Forums - Gaming - Is Microsoft’s Natal a threat to Nintendo’s Wii?

Well maybe if the article was written better they could have made a good attempt to suggest how Natal could be a threat. Unfortunately, there is no data, no extensive opinions, no nothing to really even make a point. I mean he should have save him some typing and just kept the title as the rest doesn't say anything to further it.

But all in all, could it pose a thread. Of course. Every move all the big 3 make potentially poses a threat to the others. I'm sure Nintendo even understands it as a threat. I'm sure Sony understands it as a threat. However, it is up to MS to make it a threat. So far, I've seen them do very little to really pose it as a threat. When Nintendo announced the wiimote back in late 2005, they continuously kept it on the front pages by making it their main focus. They backed it completely. To MS, it's just a whim they had at the dark corners of the Xbox division and decided to toss it on out there. They don't approach it as the wave of the future so how are we supposed to acknowledge it as such.

I think NATAL can be a huge threat to Nintendo, if and only if, MS fully backs this. They really might have something here. They just have to hope the competition doesn't out do them.

No chance. If they start developing games for Natal, the userbase suddenly shrinks by 22 million, since Natal is essentially to the PS3mote as the Wii's graphics are to the 360. From the perspective of a third party, the risk factor of developing for a new control scheme coupled with a severely reduced userbase, will mean that the logical conclusion is simply to ignore Natal, and keep writing all their games in the conventional controller format for the PS360.

I really just think Sony and Microsoft getting into Motion Control will only help to get developers to jump into the game head first.

Historically third parties never had a problem to carry the burden of driving sales of a console or an add-on. I can’t recall any instance in which a publisher would have openly asked a console manufacturer to cut the price or something along those lines. Third parties know that it’s their job to drive hardware sales and they gladly accept this fact.

Meh, not his best work. Mario and LBP was way better, as was the Conduit review article.

Um...i dont think so

No, because before it is released there will be a Wii price cut and NATAL will appear expensive.

If this guy is joking and not hiding his HD fanboyism in jokes what makes you think he imitates Rol or even knows who Rol is?
